Mahmoudess Game Winner of Molly Pitcher MONMOUTH PARK, Oceanport, N. J., June 22. Outgaming the lightly weighted Fair Ann in a thrilling head and head duel through the final eighth of a mile, J. G. Dushocks gray filly, Mahmoudess, registered a surprise victory in the featured Molly Pitcher Handicap before an enthusiastic throng of 18,076 here today. Confidently handled by Merritt A. "Junior" Buxton, who will begin a 10-day suspension beginning Monday, Mahmoudess gained the lead from the faltering Rampart just before the quarter pole and revealed stout courage in a long, hard stretch battle to defeat Fair Ann, in the silks of Mrs. George Fox, by a neck. The battle for place honors also provided the good weekend throng with a rousing finish, Fair Ann earning that position by a head from William Helis favored Elpis. Seven started in the one mile and a sixteenth feature, designed for fillies and mares, and fourth money fell to Mrs. M. J. OLearys Santas Vixen. First stake of the meeting over a distance of ground, Mahmoudess, confidently weighted under 113 pounds, completed the route in 1:46 to set a new standard for the one mile and a sixteenth course.
