► « Mighty Story Returns to Action Today in Churchill Downs Sprint Marsch Four-Year-Old Has 4 Bengal Boy and Marltown Among His Five Opponents CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 6. — John Marsch s Mighty Story, four-year-old son of Mahmoud and Little Lie, is to make his first 1947 start here tomorrow in the Seelbach Hotel Purse, meeting five other top-rated sprinters in the six-furlong headliner. Mighty Story, winner of the Francis S. Peabody Memorial Handicap, the Meadowland Handicap and the Discovery Handicap during his three-year-old campaign, is to shoulder top weight of 118 pounds under the allowance conditions of the Seelbach, and he will be handled in the dash by Douglas Dodson. Brought along carefully this spring by trainer Bur-ley Parke, Mighty Story should go well in his seasonal debut and he "blew out" three furlongs this morning in :35%, moving along quite handily in the short speed test. Mighty Story is to engage formidable competition in the mid-week principal offering and he will have to be at his best to chalk up a victory. Bengal Boy, a representative of J. A. Kinard, Jr., Carl Grahams Marltown, E. R. Morris Duck Berry, Henry Tikulskis Bolus, and Gris-som and Shermans Unconditional are named to oppose the Marsch star. Bengal Boy compiled a clever record during the winter and spring, Unconditional had bad racing luck in his only start here and Marltown has been rested since arrival from Oak-lawn Park. Duck Berry, a winner at Keene-land and Churchill Downs, is dangerous under a 110-pound burden, and Bolus wintered here under the supervision of Jacob Lowenstein, who will saddle the Boatswain gelding tomorrow for the Seelbach. Preoccupy Also in Seasonal Bow Chief supporting events on the card include the Unbreakable Purse, at six furlongs for three-year-olds, and the Upset Purse, a five-furlong dash for two-year-olds. The Marsch colors are to be carried in the Unbreakable by Preoccupy, a son of Bull Dog and Miss Bunting and the victor in the 1946 renewal of the Joliet Stakes. Included among the 14 entrants for the Unbreakable are Mrs. Katherine T. Maxwells Fleetridge, Arkansas Derby winner; Dixianas Big Casino, Thomas Piatts Evident, John McShanes Gay Secret and Shady Brook Farms Gotham. The Upset matches a promising band of juveniles and Calumet Farms Yesme and Free America probably will answer the bugle as favorites over their five rivals. Free America has shown decided improvement in recent works, while Yesme trained nicely since finishing third to Loriot and Sun Tavy at Keeneland. Mrs. F. P. Letel-liers Knights Hill, Piatt Stables Bishop, William Wickhams Withastar, Raymond Ankenbauers Hot Toddy, and Dixianas Santa Fe, a home-bred son of Balladier and Baggage Trail, complete the field for the two-year-old dash.
