Petsome Petsome Takes Takes Sportsmans Sportsmans Feature; Feature; Caltha Caltha Successful Successful in in Rosedale Rosedale Stakes Stakes Whips Sand Storm In Filly-Mare Dash Fogeison Miss Registers in Clear as Her Running Mate, Pomps Gal, Finishes Third SPORTSMANS PARK, Cicero, 111.. May 6. — Ben Fogelsons Petsome, going in her best form, did not need the aid of her more illustrious stablemate Pomps Gal to account for the Wedgewood Purse, six and a half furlongs headliner fashioned for fillies and mares that topped todays card at this point. Steadied closest to the early pace set by James Emerys Static, Petsome swept to the front readily on the far turn when Static was through, opened up a clear lead but was under pressure to retain an advantage of a length and a half over Mrs. Phil Leons fast-finishing Sand Storm. A half length farther back Fogelsons Pomps Gal was third but Anthony Skoronski had never let her extend herself, confident of the ability of Petsome to carry out her task. Rafael Sanabria rode Petsome expertly and saw her covering the distance in 1:26 over a fast track. The entry was stoutly supported by the crowd of 11,952 who braved the threatening weather that turned to a mild drizzle as the feature was run. The Fogeison entry paid .20. Disposes of Static The lead that Static was able to assurru from the start was under sufferance from Petsome, who was steadied next in line, with dead aim on the leader and before Lightfoot Lady, as Pomps Gal was allowed to loaf along in fifth place. This running order of the leaders was maintained until Petsome disposed of Static and drew clear. Static was done when headed and wilted out of contention as Lightfoot Lady moved into second place in the early stretch. Here, Pomps Gal had been allowed to move around the outside into closer contention, but Skoronski did not urge her, showing solid confidence in the ability of Petsome to handle her task. Meanwhile, Sand Storm, who had been waited with in fourth place, was called upon for speed and she moved up with a rush through the home lane that compelled Sanabria to put his charge under pressure to make the issue safe. Pomps Gal, however, finishing fast on her own courage and on the outside, swept into third place without effort. The six three-year-olds that he met in the six and a half furlongs Riverside Purse, secondary feature, proved easy for Sid-dons, racing for Virden and Scott. The son of Remolino was steadied back of the pace set by Kentucky Son and Well Wisher until reaching the far turn where he was given his head by jockey Del Jessop. Moving around the outside of the leaders Siddons swept to the front without difficulty and drew away to lope to a convincing four-length victory over A. S. Higgins Well Wisher at the end. Third went to Studio Play, racing for Kurkjian and Dilger who was three parts of a length farther back but who had no difficulty in ousting the tiring Kentucky Son from that position.
