Fervent Fervent Nose Nose Victor Victor in in Equipoise; Equipoise; Stymie Stymie Closes Closes Fast Fast to to Nip Nip Conniver Conniver Gets Up Near Wire For Head Verdict World Money King Annexes Stake Second Year in Row; Earnings Now at 83,385 AQUEDUCT, L. I., N. Y., June 26. Stymie thrilled a crowd of 28,667 by getting up in the very last stride of the Aqueduct Handicap to beat Harry LaMontagnes good filly, Conniver, a short head today. James Tiganis Double Jay reached the end of the mile and a sixteenth three and a half lengths farther back, and two and a half lengths before Sunshine Stables Lets Dance. The worlds richest horse made hia usual run in the stretch, but caused hia innumerable followers to tremble as he raced with his head turned toward the stands, while Conniver kept on gamely, refusing to quit, only succumbing at the wire. Bobby Permane rode Mrs. Ethel D. Jacobs stallion, who paid ..10 and ran the mile and a sixteenth in 1:45 over the fast but dead track. Stymie added 9,750 to his earnings, bringing his total to 83,385. This was his one hundred and thirty-third start and his third victory in eight starts in his fifth year of arduous campaigning. This was not one of his most impressive victories, however. Apart from Conniver, a filly who was in trouble in the run to the clubhouse turn, and Double Jay, who had been idle since early May with a wrenched ankle, the son of Equestrian had little to beat and gave the impression of not being too willing to extend himself in the final furlong. Lets Dance Rushed into Lead Lets Dance was rushed to the front from his outside post position as the field left the gate directly in front of the stands in the Aqueduct, followed by Blue Boarder, Double Jay, Tide Rips, Coincidence, Conniver, who was in close quarters and Stymie who trailed as usual. Rounding the clubhouse turn, Blue Border moved past Lets Dance and opened up a length lead while Double Jay moved abreast of the early leader. Coincidence was several lengths away in fourth place and only a length before Stymie and Conniver, while Tide Rips dropped back to last place. Blue Border continued to lead under a mild hand ride in the run down the far side, while Double Jay moved past Lets Dance on the outside and Conniver began to find her stride on the outside, passing Stymie. Double Jay disposed of Blue Border between the turns and took a brief lead, but Conniver quickly moved up to dispose of the Balladier colt as Blue Border stopped and Stymie began to close fast on the extreme outside. Conniver came into the stretch a neck in front of Double Jay and quickly drew away Continued on Page Three Stymie Stages Cyclonic Finish To Annex Aqueduct Again Continued from Page One to a daylight lead. Stymie, though going rather wide, had no trouble passing Double Jay, then set sail for the filly. At the sixteenth pole it seemed that he wouldnt make it, as he didnt seem willing to extend himself fully, but Permane kept pushing and Stymie kept gaining as Conniver tired. Stymie drew level with Conniver about four strides from the finish, but she held on doggedly and it wasnt until the last jump that the chestnut was able to shove his head in front. Double Jay appeared in need of the race, while Lets Dance, after appearing hopelessly beaten at the far turn, came on again then tired at the end. Coincidence, Tide Rips and Blue Border, who eased at the end, followed under the wire. This was Stymies second straight triumph in the Aqueduct. Last year, he carried 132 pounds with a filly, Gallorette, again proving his chief rival. The onetime ,200 claim had 130 up today, but met a somewhat weaker field.
