, Shevlin, Dwyer and Carter Coming Aqueduct Highlights Eastern Three-Year-Olds i To Clash in First Two on Wednesday, Holiday Cards AQUEDUCT; L. I., N. Y., June 26. The Queens County Jockey Club enters its biggest week on Monday, climaxed by the thirty-first running of the 0,000 Dwyer Stakes on the holiday Monday, July 5. The Dwyer will be preceded by the twenty-first running of the 0,000 Shevlin on Wednesday, the 0,000 Forget Hurdle Handicap on Friday and the 5,000 Carter Handicap, which will have its 48th renewal on Saturday. The Shevlin and Dwyer are both for three-year-olds and the former at a mile and a sixteenth is somewhat of an elimination event prior to the mile and a quarter classic. In recent years, A. P. Parkers By Jimminy and J. M. Roeblings Wildlife scored doubles in the Shevlin and Dwyer but the majority of Shevlin winners have been colts who were not quite up to getting the American classic distance. A pair of ,000 races under allowance conditions head Mondays program, with claimers comprising the other six events. W. L. Branns Escadru, winner of the Peter Pan in his last start, is the most prominent of the "name" horses who are expected to go in the Shevlin. Other prominent likely starters include Belair Studs Whirling Fox, King Ranchs Better Self, B. F. Whitakers My Request and one or more of a C. V. Whitney trio composed of Vulcans Forge, Dinner Gong and Black Majesty. Better Self Probable ior Both Better Self and My Request are both pointing particularly for the Dwyer, but are fit and ready for the Shevlin and there is, at least an even chance that they will go postward in the shorter race. The Whitney colts have been racing in widely scattered areas on recent Saturdays and a decision as to just who will go in the Shevlin will not to be reached until Monday. After Whirling Fox dismal performance today it appeared probable that The Dervish would carry the Belair silks in the Shevlin. There is also the possibility that William Hells Salmagundi, a Dwyer candidate, will also start in the Shevlin. Less renowned than the colts named, but considered definite candidates are Leo Gerngfoss Noble Hero, Sunshine Stables Control, A. J. Sacketts Gasparilla, and George M. Jacobsons Big Dial. The seven-furlong Carter gained considerable fame in 1944 when Bossuet, Wait a Bit and Brownie crossed the line locked in a dead heat. This years field is expected to come from among such as William Helis speedy Rippey, Harry LaMontagnes Cai-fero, Mrs. John Hertz Owners Choice, Greentree Stables Blue Border, Walter S. Homes Skylighter, Sidney S. Schuppers Miss Disco and possibly, W. L. Branns crack mare, Gallorette. Rippey- won the Carter last year under 112 pounds, and probably will be topweight in racing secretary John B. Campbells ratings this year. ROBERT McGARVEY Saddled Tre Vit for her sparkling triumph in the Scars-dale Handicap on Saturdays Arlington Park program.
