HYFLARE, quickest to begin, opened a clear lead and was taken under steadying restraint while setting a rapid pace, responded when roused and drew out at the end. GAY LOOKOUT, steadied within-striking distance of the pace, rallied mildly, but was not good enough. SHAVO moved readily after a mile and drew closest to the leader, then faltered. JUSTINIAN II., taken back off the pace and steadied for six furlongs, failed to make up ground when roused. QONA forced the pace for six furlongs, then sulked when roused. BUSYRIDGE, hustled early to gain command on the inside, saved ground while edging away from opposition and continued gamely under light urging. BUILDER improved position steadily on the outside, raced wide on the final turn and closed with good energy. GAVILAN, quickest to begin, set a rapid pace for a quarter mile, remained close to the leader after giving way, then weakened in the drive. GAY FRANKA rallied mildly from off the pace. BLENWEED, a forward factor from the beginning, raced wide entering the stretch, then failed to make up ground under steady urging. KEWEY DEE went evenly and had no mishap. TURNCOAT showed good early speed, forced the pace to the far turn, then weakened. Ml NTLOCK raced evenly. SANTA ELISA passed tiring horses. JUDGE DAVEY was outrun. JOHNS LIBERTY showed nothing. MISS RHODA, well placed to the far turn, slipped through on the inside,, engaged MUSICAL LADY nearing the furlong pole and outfinished the latter under steady urging. MUSICAL LADY was hustled into command soon after the beginning, drew clear, saved ground and held on gamely in the drive. ARIEL ACTRESS, steadied when unable to match strides with the leaders, closed strongly on the outside in the late stages. GUNNISON moved into contention with a bold rush on the outside, then hung. FIRST COMMAND raced evenly. CHIPAMINK made up ground from far off the pace. GERHAM was unable to hold a forward position. SHINY PENNY was unable to reach the leaders while racing on the extreme outside. DAGON was unable to improve position under urging. The others were outrun. GHOST RUN broke alertly, remained close to the leader while saving ground and held on gamely when put to a drive, but was not good enough. DOBODURA finished with a bold rush along the inner rail. VULCANS FORGE, guickest to begin, was taken back off the pace and steadied, was caught in close quarters down the backstretch, moved up gradually on the outside and was put to steady urging to outfinish REBORN in the final stages. REBORN, reserved close to the pace, slipped through on the inside to take a short lead nearing the furlong pole and held on gamely under strong pressure. MR. BUSTER outran the field to take a clear lead early, was sent along at a fair clip and held on gamely to the end. GASPARILLA, slow to settle into best stride, worked his way up on the outside to the final turn, came inside the horses and finished with good energy. DOLE never far off the pace, bothered the winner in the stretch. LOSER WEEPER moved closest to the leader after a half, drew on even terms nearing. the quarter pole, then flattened out LITTLE BOBBY broke sluggishly and was never a serious factor. WAR RAIDER flattened out when set down. BARRAGE was unable to keep up ANDYS GLORY stumbled entering the backstretch and dropped out of contention. Scratched-51691 Royal Scot, 107; 51270 Friedy, 107. BIG AND BETTER engaged TARPAN soon after the start, raced as a team to the final furlong, then rallied strongly to outfinish THWARTED. The latter, kept close to the leaders on the outside, moved rapidly to draw abreast in the stretch and continued on gamely, losing in the final stride. MANNA H., never far off the pace came strongly on the outside to reach the leaders, then hung. TARPAN, quickest to begin, set a rapid pace held on gamely to the final furlong, then weakened. BLACK KNAVE had no mishap. MISLEADER went evenly WILLING SPIRIT remained in the gate as the field broke, then came out fifty yards back and went along at a rapid clip. SALERNO showed nothing.
