Richavoo in Parkside Purse Sprint Has Seven Rivals I At Sportsmans Bishop Racer Gives Weight To One Blue, Rose Bed and Riot Over Five Furlongs SPORTSMANS PARK, Cicero, 111., May 11. — One of the most evenly-matched fields of the waning meeting is scheduled to clash in the Parkside Purse when eight speedy sprinters will vie at five furlongs here tomorrow afternoon. Among the favorites in the field are William H. Bishops Richavoo, Marion H. VanBergs One Blue and Rose Bed, F. M. Arrigos Riot, Mrs. S. Smiths Best Trick and D. C. Wilhelms Bubbling Easy. Only two in the band could be regarded as outsiders, they being Mrs. T. M. Pruetts Technicolor and War Miss, owned by W. D. Rorick and L. O. Lane. Under the allowance conditions of the dash, Richavoo must shoulder top weight of 122 pounds. The four-year-old son of Capt. Cal — Night Mist, by Nassak, has been unable to score at the meeting, but has shown several creditable races. For the most part he has encountered unfortunate luck, usually breaking from outside post positions, which is very definitely a mark against horses here when they are going five furlongs. Only yesterday the colt was parked out in the center of the track when Pad Lock failed to make the bend in stride and this just about eliminated the Bishop colorbearer from consideration. Prior to that outing Richavoo finished second to the shifty Master Bid, who was acclaimed as the outstanding sprinter of the meeting by virtue of three consecutive victories in as many starts. Richavoo finished second on two other occasions, and both times he suffered loss of ground on the turns. For a change, however, the consistent colt is to break from the number two slot in the starting gate and in spite of his high impost, he may show to better advantage. Unable to Outrun Play Again Riot was an odds-on favorite in his most recent start, but was unable to outrun the speedy Play Again, who recorded one of the fastest races of recent years over this half-mile course, going five furlongs in l:012/5. However, the Arrigo gelding forced the issue throughout and held on gamely through the stretch. In back of him were Fertile Lands, Donaris, Blue Agent, Frank Munns and Lady Lureen. Best Trick is the only three-year-old in the field and a repetition of her only start at the meeting would make her hard to handle. The filly showed her heels to Park Pigeon, Impact and others in her only outing. Either of the VanBerg pair could be formidable factors. Rose Bed, however, probably should rate over One Blue. Rose Bed has started twice at the meeting and finished third both times. She is an exceedingly consistent sort who seldom fails to give her best unless thoroughly outclassed. She was a 2 to 3 favorite in her first start and finished third to Mae Agnes and Riot, after forcing a stiff early pace in a seven furlongs dash. Next time she was unable to match Master Bids blistering foot and also was beaten by Richavoo. One Blue was ! another that could not match Master Bids speed in his first start, and next time out, ; while running as a favorite over Bubbling Easy, Knights Gift, Richavoo and others, he was badly beaten. Bubbling Easy raced here yesterday, finishing second to Play Again and beating, among others, Richavoo.
