Larky Day Makes Successful Steeplechase Bow at Pimlico PIMLICO, Baltimore, Md., May 11.— Harry LaMontagnes Larky Day, who was victorious in several stakes offerings while participating in flat races, made an auspicious steeplechase debut this afternoon when he accounted for the Pimlico Spring Maiden, first in a series of three events staged at Pimlico, Belmont and Delaware Parks. Weir conditioned and schooled by Arthur White, the eight-year-old Blue Larkspur gelding turnecfin the creditable "good" course time of 3:58%, over the two -mile distance while scoring by less than a length over Rigan McKinneys Coeur, who, with his running mate, Hot, had been installed the even-money favorite. H. A. Dunns Leche Hombre was third, four lengths farther back. The winner was strongly handled by Danny Marzani and paid .40. Raw weather prevailed but the attendance of approximately 12,500 was quite satisfying. Larky Day, who did not race last year, still has considerable to learn about the jumping profession, but his speed on the flat held him in good stead. He also demonstrated that he still possesses much of the gameness which made him a feared competitor on the flat several seasons ago. Following the race, owner LaMontagne and trainer White received congratulations and a trophy from John K. Shaw, Jr., vice-president of the Maryland Jockey Club.
