Solidarity Will Await Hollywood Park Stakes Ran Mile and Quarter in. 2:00 in Winning Golden Gate Handicap GOLDEN GATE FIELDS, Albany, Calif., May 11. — Mrs. Nat Goldstones Solidarity came out of his winning race in last Saturdays 0,000 Golden Gate Handicap in excellent condition and today was heading for Santa Anita and the bright galaxy of stakes and overnight features which the Hollywood Turf Club will offer there this summer. Also heading south today was the W-L Ranchs Stepfather who finished second in the Pacific Turf Clubs rich run of a mile and a quarter last week-end. Solidarity gave further evidence of the lightning-fast condition of the Golden Gate Fields track and his own capabilities when he carried his 119-pound impost over the mile and a quarter of last Saturdays stake in 2:00, just a fifth-second off the worlds record which the English Saint Andrews and Australian Shannon II. established. The Goldstone four-year-old, ridden by Ralph Neves, broke in front in the Golden Gate Handicap and was never headed, but he had to stand a sharp drive in the run through the final quarter to withstand the challenge of Stepfather, who a short time earlier had captured the Forty-Niners Handicap. Stepfather, also carrying 119 pounds, collared Solidarity a furlong from the wire and appeared ready to pass him, but the son of Alibhai would not give up and eventually won by three-quarters of a length. In taking the place, Stepfather beat the third horse, R. C. Ellsworths Roman In, a little more than a length as the heavily supported Dinner Gong, owned by Abe Hirschberg, was two lengths further away in fourth position. Dinner Gong, winner of the Golden Gate Mile, moved up on the second turn as if he might win, but he hung in the drive under his top impost of 128 pounds. The victory, the first triumph of the year for Solidarity, was worth 8,200 to the winner. Solidarity and Stepfather probably will be given brief rests at Santa Anita and then will be pointed for the 0,000 Golden State Breeders Handicap, a run of a mile and a sixteenth for California -bred three -year-olds and older horses which will have its running at Santa Anita on May 21. They are also eligible for the 00,000 Hollywood I Gold Cup.
