Excellent Lincoln Fields Opening Card Arranged Minimum Purses, of ,300 to Prevail; Condition Books Out WASHINGTON PARK, Homewood, 111., May 11. — The initial issue of the condition book, released by racing secretary and handicapper Lawrence C. Bogenschutz, is now in the hands of horsemen who will race during the Lincoln Fields Racing Associations 30-day meeting, which begins here on Monday. The important pamphlets were distributed yesterday to trainers and and owners at Sportsmans Park and Churchill Downs, from which most of the horses are due to ship here Of paramount importance to horsemen was the fact that the book contains information that reveals the minimum purse will be ,300 during the meeting, with a smattering of overnight events that range up to ,500. It is also noted by the book that the infield turf course will be put in use during the meeting. On the third day of the meeting a ,500 handicap is scheduled over the grass at a mile and one-sixteenth. This is an event for three-year-olds and upward. Eight races are carded on the opening program, with the traditional 0,000 added Crete Handicap, a six-furlong affair for three-year-olds and up topping the list. The supporting feature will be a ,800 race over the grass at a mile and one-sixteenth for four-year-olds and upward who have not won ,300 other than claiming in 1949 or ,000 since July 31. A two-year-old maiden race could possibly attract a number of potential class youngsters, for it bears no clauses and is open to fillies, colts or geldings. This is slated as the opening race. The second is an allowance event at six furlongs for three-year-olds who have never won three races other than maiden or claiming. This dash, too, could bring out a representative field. Another allowance race at six furlongs, listed as the fifth, is for four-year-olds and up which have not won ,300 other than claiming in 1948-49. All other races will be of the claiming variety. Racing secretary Bogenschutz hopes to pattern one of the finest opening-day programs in the history of the Lincoln Fields Association with the conditions he has written. Virtually every type of thoroughbred will get an opportunity to show his or her speed.
