Veteran Sprinters Seek Worth Purse Spring Chimes May Rule as Choice Over Reighs Comet At Churchill Downs Course CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 11. — A formidable field of six veteran sprinters is slated to match strides in the six-furlong Worth Purse, which will feature tomorrows program at this south side course. Mrs. V. E. Smiths fleet Spring Chimes will, in all probability, answer the bugle as the favorite in the Worth if her past efforts over the local oval can be used as a criterion. This four-year-old daughter of Balladier — Slapdash, registered two victories during her sophomore year, and usually improves with racing. The opposition to the Smith miss comprises such reputable sprinters as Mrs. H. J, Damms Reighs Comet. Miss Jean Cambrons Chal-lorette, Mrs. Leo Wagners Nickey W., Henry Tikulskis Bobs Pick and Mrs. H. M. Goldstines Mons Boy. Reighs Comet graced the winners circle during the recently concluded Keeneland meeting in which he turned back a clever group of intermediate claiming performers including Ralph W. Shaws local favorite, Shaws Pride, and Mrs. A. M, Creechs Be Brief. In his only appearance here Reighs Comet finished a fast-closing third behind A. R. Evans Evanstep and Nate L. Raff el-mans Pomps Gal, in a field which also included the aforementioned Challorette and Spring Chimes. Should Prove Dangerous Under his assigned impost of 112 pounds, including the five pounds allowed for an as .yet unnamed apprentice rider, Reighs Comet should prove dangerous indeed, and will need only to race back to his previous form to take down the major portion of the purse. Nickey W. displayed brief speed in his seasonal debut at the Downs, but faded badly during the late stages of the recently decided Riley Purse to finish some 10 lengths behind Henry Forrests highly regarded Cotton Joe. The Wagner charge should improve from that effort, and in addition the competition he is scheduled to meet tomorrow is of less calibre than the members of the Riley field. Challorette and Bobs Pick have yet to show to advantage here, but could garner the honors on their best efforts. Mons Speed will be making his first start following a winter campaign in Florida in which he was unable to score in five attempts. However, in his last start at Gulfstream, the Goldstine campaigner placed second behind C. T. Chenerys speedy Mangohick in a creditable performance. The one mile and one-sixteenth seventh race brings together a small but select band of middle distance claiming contenders, who should provide interesting sport. In this event. B. Lisners Floating Clown, Mrs. H. M. Goldstines Old Iron and Augustus and Nahms Choppy Sea appear best of the group which also includes Shut Eye, Miss Golightly and Prepotente.
