V ► — - Bay State Kindergarten Stakes Draws ] Faneuil Miss, 13 Others Honeywell Farm Filly Has t Unbridled, Lefty Jim, Dot H. And Shadows Start to Beat SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., May 20. — Fourteen juveniles, representing j 11 different interests, have been named c overnight to compete in the second running c of the 5,000 Bay State Kindergarten K Stakes to be run at Suffolk Downs tomorrow. The large response is largely due to j. the possibility of an "off" track, inasmuch £ as it has been raining here since early this i morning. With the exception of four eligibles, Irving i Gushens Lefty Jim, "Murray Hill J Farms pair of Dot H. and Miss Meliss and 1 Mrs. J. W. Branhams Shadows Start, it a will be the initial venture for the youngsters £ in stakes competition. None of the i mentioned quartet has been successful in competition for the added money, although each has won at least one race with lesser opposition. The Bay State Kindergarten may prove J the opening stake triumph for Honeywell Farms ] Faneuil Miss, bargain filly selected ] by owner John Deveny from -the C. V. Whitney consignment to the summer sale [ conducted at Belmont Park last year. ■ Deveny paid ,200 for the brown daughter ] of Teddys Comet — Crawfish and already ■ has netted ,975 by the fillys two victories to date. Alexandra High on Charge Trainer George Alexandra, who has carefully prepped Faneuil Miss, regards his 1 charge as one of the best he ever handled. After winning her debut in impressive fashion at Gulf stream Park this past . spring, Faneuil Miss repeated that per-i formance with a record-breaking dash on opening day at Suffolk Downs, registering a three-length triumph over Lefty Jim in AlYs for a half mile. Tomorrows distance , of five furlongs appears made to order for I the miss, who does the most of her running I in the final stages of a race. : Foremost among the rivals of Faneuil Miss is Mrs. F. A. Genters colt, Unbridled. : This oyungster turned in a creditable race ! in his only outing, winning over a band of . maidens in handy fashion, being clocked in ■ :54 for the four and one-half furlongs. , Unlike Faneuil Miss, Unbridled is a flash » from the gate and will have to be over-. taken. Gushen, local owner, appears to hold a , strong hand in the Kindergarten. In addi- tion to Lefty Jim, the Salem, Mass., merchant will be represented by Georges Girl, a winner at the current meeting. Should [ the racing strip be "off," trainer Herb Fisher may decide to * pin his hopes on Georges Girl in preference to Lefty Jim. The latter failed to impress in one effort over a muddy strip at Gulfstream Park earlier in the season. Dot H. must be considered the better of the Murray Hill Farm pair. This daughter „ of Four Freedoms— Bright Harvest in addition Lm to winning a maiden event and a , high priced claiming dash, finished second in the Debutante behind Rosetip at Fan-Grounds in New Orelans. A month later, Dot H. also was the runner-up in a division ; of the Fair Grounds Dinner Stakes behind i Balladette at the Louisiana track. , Trainer Odie Clelland may have a good colt in Shadows Start. The son of Hoop Jr., • has appeared in two stakes in Kentucky [ this spring, the best effort .being in the Bashford Manor Stakes when he finished 1 in a dead heat for third with Black Sambo. • Prior to his participation in the select group, Shadows Start won a pair of overnight events at New Orleans.
