Hazel Park Applications For Stabling to Turfmen Work Progressing Swiftly on New Fiye-Eighths Mile Detroit Plant FAIR GROUNDS, Detroit, Mich., May 20. — Horace Wade, racing secretary of the Hazel Park Racing Association, accompanied by president Richard Connell, was a Pair Grounds visitor this afternoon, distributing stable application blanks for the coming summer meeting August 17 through October 8. Wade made a flying trip here from Monmouth Park, where he serves as director of publicity. Both Connell and Wade reported that work is progressing swiftly on the new five-eighths mile racing plant on Ten Mile Road, and that the track will be ready several weeks ahead of "the August inaugural date. "Ninety per cent of the steel work is already completed," said Connell, "and the other 10 per cent in on the ground, ready to be erected." Additionally, footings are in for the 14 barns, each capable ef housing 50 thoroughbreds, and most of the fireproof, cinder block tack rooms are completed. Actual work on stall construction will start immediately. The running strip has been laid out and deeply banked, making Hazel Park one of the safest small tracks in the country. A nine-inch cushion of sandy loam will be spread during the coming week, and if necessary horses can start training by July 15, although the opening date of the stable area has temporarily been set for August 1. Stall applications are on hand at this time for -more than 800 horses, and this number wil be more than doubled within the next few weeks, Wade believe. A selection of stabling room will then be made, although horsemen currently racing at the Fair Grounds will receive the preference. Other stables which raced under" Wade at Sportsmans Park, where he also serves as racing secretary, will be accommodated to bring the stabling area to absolute capacity.
