Papa Redbird Flashes Speed FAIR GROUNDS, Detroit, Mich., May 20. —Papa Redbird, Joseph A. Goodwins fleet four-year-old colt who won the Arlington Classic last season and began his 1949 campaign with a brilliantly achieved victory in the Curtain Up Handicap at the local oval, turned in an outstanding speed test here this morning over the sloppy track. With Willie Cook in the irons, the quick son of Balladier went "around the dogs" in :47%, handily, for a half-mile after he had stepped the initial quarter-mile in :23% and passed the three-furlong marker in :35Vs. Trainer John Zoeller, who has a big division of the Goodwin stable quartered here, expressed complete satisfaction with Papa Redbirds sharp move.
