Suburban Hopefuls Named for Aletern Belmont Classified Handicap Lures Doubtless II., Chains, Safe Arrival and Frankly BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., May 23. — The Aletern Classified Handicap, for three-year-olds and over at one mile and one furlong, is the best offering of the eight-race program at the Nassau County course tomorrow. This event attracted a field of nine, and included in the lot are some potentials for the Suburban Handicap which is the outstanding feature for older horses of the Westchester Racing Associations spring meeting. Among these eligible for the Suburban and expected to measure strides tomorrow are Safe Arrival and Flying Missel representing the King Ranch, Chains and Inseparable t from the Brookmeade Stable, Frank Frankels Frankly and the Greentree Stables costly South American importation, Doubtless n. The others in the event are Engel Man, owned by D. Shaer; Word of Honor, from the Phantom Farms and Prefect representing Gustave Ring. South American Topweighted Doubtless n is the top-weight of the field with 122 pounds and jockey Ted Atkinson in the saddle. He is asked to concede three pounds to Chains and four to Safe Arrival and 20 to Engel Man, the the light weight of the field. Despite the weight impost, the Atkinson-ridden starter looms as the one to occupy the post" of favoritism. His last start was an impressive one and improvement can be expected over that. Chains, from the Brookmeade Stable, is at peak form. His Dixie score at Pimlico attests to that fact and he shapes up as the contender. Safe Arrival, a winner last time out and Flying Missel, are steady going routers and neither can be dismissed without some consideration. The weight assignment of 118, on Safe Arrival, is a jump of 12 pounds over his recent winning effort and this may mitigate against him. Prefect is a steady going sort but apears a trifle outmatched here while Word of Honor finished fifth in the same offering in which Doubtless II was beaten a half length by Make-Up Man over the mile and one sixteenth distance. Frankly finished last in the same outing. Inseparable will have to show to better, advantage over recent starts to be given consideration. A fairly good line on the forthcoming Suburban can be obtained from the race although the name horses of the handicap brigade who are expected to measure strides in that offering are missing from the field. The Saltaire is the secondary feature and this is an allowance test at six furlongs over, the main course for three-year-olds. Eight were named for this, winners of 900 or less. The days opener is a wild scramble down the Widener course for two-year-old fillies under claiming conditions. Twenty-six were named for this.
