George Tappen Celebrates Seventy-Sixth Natal Day BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., May 23. — George Tappen, known on race courses throughout the land.as "Fish," celebrated his seventy-sixth birthday yesterday at the Pitzsimmons stables, where he has been year in and year out for more than half a century. He and Fitzsimmons are inseparably friends and the pair are known "Sunny Jim" on his turf career by getting him a job with his outfit. Pish said yesterday he was enjoying his birthday by taking things easy around the stable and rooting that trouble would steer clear of his barns. Fish is 14 months older than his old side partner. Scores of jobs as trainer were offered Tappen through the years, but he turns them down, saying he would prefer to remain with Fitz.
