Kentuckian, full brother to Hoot Mon, winner of the 1947 Hambletonian, has his work cut out for himself in the Naperville Stake Pace at Aurora Downs Monday night. Raced on the trot from his very first start, the Kay and Dave Ward-owned 6- year-old Scotland bay gelding was coverted over on the pace by Edgar Leonard during last three weeks of the Aurora meeting last fall. However, the Kentuckian didnt get to races as a pacer until April 30 of this year. On this night he took to pacing as though he had been racing on this gait from the very go. Jimmy Fleming piloted gelding to an easy victory in 2:14. Railbirds werent through buzzing about performance when the Kentuckian went a bristling 2:09 mile in his second start. Monday he faces seven other pacers one division of the Naperville pace. His competitors in his field are Josephine Song, Mac, Long Silk, Jolly Chief, CFJt., Ann Cash and Kahoka Girl. Of this group, Josephine Song and Ka- hoka Girl are the only other winners this meeting. Josephine Song, driven by Clay Hasch, drew the pole in both miles, while Kentuckian will leave from the seven post J-position in the first trip and third from the other mile. The other division of the Naperville at- tl tracted nine starters, namely; Victory E Jacky, Roman Council, Gold Honor, Mc- hi Namara, Myrtle Truax, Doll Up, Lusty Jes- le Helen N., and Annville. hi Four of this field have entered the win- ir in ners circle at the Downs this season.
