Daily Racing Form Speed Ratings The handicappers and statisticians of DAILY RACING FORM have evolved a Speed Ratine system that is far superior to any yet devised. Instead of being based merely on track records, the ratings are based primarily on Jhe constant, or mean, speed of the track, aUowances thus being made for variation in footing. By this method, when a horse earns a rating of, say 85, for a six-furlong race at Belmont Park, he earns the same rating by the same effort at any other track. Speed ratings are shown in the past performances after the claiming price or race classification.
