STILL GAY was prominent from the break, took the lead in the stretch and drew clear. SWEET PRYME, well placed between horses,* moved up gamely, but was not good enough. TROMPETA weakened in the closing furlong after displaying speed. PAMARIS had no excuse. LIEBESKIND faltered after racing forwardly placed early. HADASSAH tired, as did GINOWAY. ORANA gave way after displaying brief speed. WEEDY was knocked back early. CARYS HOPE, A SCHEDULED STARTER, WAS INJURED DURING THE POST PARADE, WAS WITHDRAWN AND ALL WAGERS ON HER WERE REFUNDED. KNIGHT-AT-ARMS was forced to race wide improving position. BARRAGE lacked room in the stretch when trying to go between horses. MEL HASH lacked speed. FOR JON tired. DICTIONARY forced the pace under light restraint, went up on the outside to engage the pacemaker and proved best in the drive. ACEFULL reached a clear lead on the backstretch, held on determinedly, but was not good enough. CARELESS JONES was best of the others. COVETED lacked speed. PORTO BELLO tired, as did FRIGID. BRONZE WING ran out on the turn. FONG-SHUN-ON was sore going to the post and dwelt at the start. CHANTY MAN stumbled in midstretch and lost rider. SPANKER pressed the pace on the outside, displaced LECTIONEER when called upon and drew out between calls, then tired badly in the late stages and lasted for a dead-heat with BATTLE ROYAL. The latter was outrun early, went up on the outside for the drive and finished on even terms for first place with SPANKER. ONLOOKER moved up gamely when hard put and finished well. VIOLINIST went by tired horses. HOMELY DUKE broke greenly. LECTIONEER had good speed until midstretch and gave way. MR. M. was outrun. LEES BOY quit. DALPARK was a sharp factor on the outside, went up to gain command when hard put and outgamed TEDDIES IMP. The latter dueled for the lead from the start and missed in a good effort. DARNAWAY broke in a tangle and took up a few strides later to prevent striking horses heels, improved position from the outside thereafter and closed strongly. BEST DOINGS had no excuse in a sharp effort. COMING EVENT saved ground and finished willingly. ADAMANT tired. LURING quit after vying for the lead early. Overweight— Adamant, 2 pounds. BUSANDA was on the rail along the backstretch and never a great distance away from the leaders, improved position on the outside leaving the turn, disposed of the leaders just inside the furlong post and held LONE EAGLE safe under punishment. The latter trailed early, worked his way up on the outside when gaining best stride and closed resolutely. COUNTY DELIGHT was between horses while always within striking distance, threatened gamely in the drive and just missed for the place. THREE RINGS was on nearly even terms for the lead while between horses, faltered in midstretch, but lasted to be best of the others. ON THE MARK was on the outside while forwadly placed, made a game bid leaving "the turn and lacked a closing rally. ONE HITTER went by tired horses. LIGHTS UP was on the outside while with the first flight and on nearly even terms for the lead, gained a clear advantage when hard put in the stretch and tired suddenly. OIL CAPITOL vied for the lead on the rail and gave way in the drive. GREEK SHIP was between the leaders and began to retire after midway of the turn. STUNTS weakened badly after a mile. DEMAVEND made the pace until nearing the furlong post, held on stubbornly, but was not good enough. SEA DEFENSE made a game bid in the stretch and faltered. GOOD TIMER tired. APPROVAL was rank while hard held, ran up on the winners heels nearing the final turn and was taken up sharply, then failed to threaten. BAD HOMBRE was far back while trailing.
