I., N. Y„ May 30. — The tumult and the shouting of Suburban having become turf history, Bel- j mont Part will present the Belmont Spring Maiden Steeplechase at about two miles as the feature attraction tomorrow. A field of 13 young jumpers has been named for this ,000 test, headed by Richard K. Mellons Irish Easter with what is known as a "steadying" 158 pounds, and A. Edward Masters Titien II. a notable absentee. Cain Hoy Stables Battle Morn, the disappointing favorite for the Kentucky Derby, returns to action in the Hampton Bays Purse, a ,500 mile event which follows the steeplechase as the sixth event. Battle Morn ran up on the heels of Ruhe in the course of the dust storm .that blinded most of the Derby jockeys and .came out with a cut leg. At that time, Eddie Arcaro said as he stepped off the scales, "I.thought I was going to land on my nose, but he werent going to win, anyway." Ted Atkinson will ride the Blenheim n. colt tomorrow in his prep for the Peter Pan Handicap and Belmont Stakes. Five have been named to oppose Battle Morn and it is probable that A. Levinsons All Is Well, who gets in with 108 pounds and apprentice Sidney Cole, will be favored in the wagering. Battle Morn is asked to concede 11 pounds to the recent winner. A. F. Walls Golden Trend, 113 and Dave Gorman, also won his last race here, beating D. G. Schneiders Elixer, who has the same burden and Hedley Woodhouse to carry. The others in the Hampton Bays are Fred W. Hoopers Heliowise and Put- nam Stables Combat Boots, who finished in that order at the head of a similar field last out, with Combat Boots attempting to concede chunks of weight. Jack Colaneri is slated to ride Heliowise at 108, while Bennie Green will be on Combat Boots with five pounds more. The Belmont Spring Maiden is for steeplechasers who had "not won over fences at the time the race closed on March 15. Irish Easter, who will be ridden by Pat Smithwick, beat six of those he meets tomorrow in a race at the same distance last, week. Auburn Farms Syracuse Lad was second in that race, followed by Mrs. Esther duPont Weirs The Mast third, Mrs. Corliss Sullivans Cicas fourth , Preston Burchs Astronomer sixth, J. L. B. Bentleys Urns seventh and F. Ambrose Clarks Flash o Fire eighth . Under the revised weights for tomorrows stake, it would be no surprise to see any or all of the three finishing closest to Irish Easter turn the tables. The Mast made a costly bobble, while Cicas was making his debut over fences and turned in a highly promising effort. There are three sets of couplings in the chase. Urns will have Justin Funkhousers Spleen and Mrs. S. T. Pattersons Goose Bay as running mates. Clark will be represented by Night Patrol as well as Flash o Fire. The Mast will be coupled with Mrs. Weirs Cherwell and James Cox Bradys Boom Boom. Spleen turned in a bang-up race to be second to Pontius Pilate In the Charles L. Appleton Memorial last week and will have a considerable following. His previous race here was also a good one behind March-east. Boom Boom may also be a factor. This Case Ace gelding was all over the race track when ridden by a green rider last out. He has since come under the care of Jim Ryan, but no rider has been named. Night Patrol finished third behind Marcheast and Spleen in his only start here and may bea better prospect than Flash o Fire for the formidable Clark stable. The other candidate for the Spring Maiden is Brooks Parkers Wunderprinz, a German horse who showed sensational finishing power over hurdles last year, but is unsound. The son of Biribi is reported to be schooling well for W. B. Cocks and will be ridden by the veteran M. Ferral.
