The six-year-old son of Selalbeda needed just such a ride to take the measure of the hard-hitting All At Once from the barn of 3,, W. Nizlek. Three parts of a length separated the battling pair at the end of the gruelling nine-furlong I event over the heavy racing strip. ; Cobbles Stables Abstract was third, two and a half lengths back of the runner-up and a like distance before Cherry Oca Stables First Nighter. Outland and Peace Mission finished in the order named to ; complete the field.. The largest crowd of the 1951 New England season, 30,254, was on hand at Suffolk Downs this afternoon. Although there » was a threat of r,ain throughout the program, . just a few drops fell between the ; earlier races. The majority of the patrons 3 •installed Tilenny a 9-10 choice and a t thrilling race to triumph was their reward I for faithfulness. - In the preceding event, t Ralph. Lowes Pictus defeated -four""rivals 5 at six furlongs to pay .20 as he tow-roped . the field. As was expected, Jimmy DeWitt sent All [ At Once to the fore as Buddy Wingfield I sent the sextet on its way in the Tomasello. Taking a good hold of his mount, DeWitt • placed him nearly perfect, saving enough t to extend the onrushing Tilenny in the late stages. Peace Mission and Outland I were in the closest attendance as the leader . went down the backstretch with Tilenny r having Abstract and First Nighter back of • him in Indian file. Burr edged the ultimate winner closer to the pace as he went up on the outside . leaving the backstretch. Abstract was under . the whip by this time and his move : carried him along the rail to pass Tilenny momentarily as the latter took the overland route. Into the stretch, All At Once was in full stride and refused to allow either challenger to pass him as they reached the furlong pole. Burr still didnt pull his stick and the hand ride was superb as he kept the Cataldo horse right after the leader. Abstract faltered at the sixteenth pole and the two leaders were at throat latches still dueling. In the final yards, Tilenny made good his bid and went under the wire : nearly clear of his game rival. The deep footing of the oval kept all speeds to a minimum with Tilenny needing i 1:54 to negotiate the mile and a furlong. It "was the first major triumph for the i winner and his rider during the current : campaign. Cataldo picked up a check for ,960 of ] the gross ,010 for his standard bearers s victory. j
