SHIRLSON was hard ridden to gain a short advantage over STAR Z. in the backstretch, was lightly steadied while bearing out and dropping back on the turns, then came again under punishment on the extreme outside and won going away. STAR Z. was hustled along from the start and opened a clear lead turning into the stretchy then drifted wide and faltered suddenly near the end. FERIAL was hard urged to reach closer contention, appeared mildly dangerous while saving ground in the early stretch, but lacked a closing rally. EMULATE was a forward factor, but never was dangerous and weakened. GREELAC raced evenly. LIBRAB. could not keep up. MEASURE UP quit. ALAN C. refused to break and remained at the gate. GRO-UP sprinted into a long lead while the bulk of the field was shuffling about for position, saved ground and, under strong and steady handling, repulsed a stretch bid from CALL SHOT to be drawing away at the finish. CALL SHOT raced in closest attendance to the pace, loomed boldly on the outside of GRO-UP and headed that one in the drive, but weakened and was losing ground at the end. DAYROUND, shuffled about after the start, saved ground and moved up fast on the final turns, but could not carry his speed in the stretch drive. STRADDLE gradually made up ground from a slow beginning. AETHELRED quit. BLUE HOLLY, pinched back at the start, was not a serious factor. WELL MY WORD and VERA CONNELLY quit.
