Richards Sets European Mark GLASGOW, Scotland, June 9 UP.— Bob Richards, the pole vaulting parson from LaVerne, Calif., set a new British and European record in his specialty today with a leap of 14 feet, eight inches in the police sports track and field meet at Hampden Park. A crowd of 40,000 watched Richards, former University of Illinois star, break the old British mark of 14 feet, three inches set by Cornelius Warmerdam, one-time U. S. Olympic champion, in 1938.
