Seek Cause of Buffalo Fire BUFFALO, N. Y„ June 9.— Fire officials stated today that the 50,000 blaze that took the lives of 31 harness horses at Buffalo Raceway Thursday night probably was caused by a carelessly tossed cigarette. Detective Sergeant Charles L. Haggerty of the Buffalo pplice arson squad said: "Several men were seen smoking in and about the barn. Any of them might have dropped a cigarette butt in the hay or straw." Chief Louis Kassel of the volunteer fire department of Armer, a village near the Hamburg track, -voiced the opinion that the fire was due to "accidental causes, probably carelessness," and said it might have started from a cigarette.
