KING COMMANDER, badly outurn until entering the stretch, came to the inside to improve position when gaining best stride, put away the leaders with a rush and drew out. FRENCH QUARTER saved ground while forwardly placed, loomed a stout threat in the stretch but was not good enough. KATHY MENDEL was with the first flight from the start, made a determined bid in the drive and faltered slightly. BRAVE BIM saved ground, and failed to respond for the drive RELIC QUEEN closed well after a slow start. TORNAROSE was used up making the pace. BATTLEBUZ tired GABEZ went well for five furlongs and quit. CAM0UFLET was outrun. SAHARA racedwide and quit. Scralched-61085 Tio Tito, 118. CLABBER, in good position while on the outside, made up ground steadily on the final turn, went into command in the "stretch and just lasted. WISE MARKET, never far back while being reserved until leaving the turn, challenged in the stretch and, gradually gaining on the top one, just missed. LEGATE trailed early, raced slightly wide while moving up to be a sharp contender in the stretch and also closed resolutely. MAADJI gave way after making the pace for six furlongs. PIEDMONT LASS established a clear lead quickly, was hard put when challenged, but could not remain in command in the stretch, then came again when OUR CRICKET faltered. The latter was steadied while racing slightly wide, moved up rapidly and gained command in the stretch, then shortened stride in the late stages. KITCHEN MAID saved ground while closest to the pace and failed to respond in the drive. BELLE REBELLE had no excuse. LA PER0USE raced wide. MISS NANCY showed nothing. MAC BEA was through early. MANDINGO stumbled badly at the start, made up ground steadily on the outside when recovering, took command inside the furlong post and outfinished EARMARKED The latter established a clear lead nearing the turn, held on stubbornly for the final furlong, but was not good enough. FIORA was eased back on the inside nearing the turn, came again on the rail and made a bold bid at the sixteenth post and hung. ASSIGNMENT, rated in the opening stages, swung to the middle of the track entering the stretch and closed with fair courage. ARCAVE had no excuse. ELIXIR could not get through on the rail whilevIugging in badly along the backstretch, was taken up sharply and brought out entering the turn and failed to rally. HIGH DIVE trailed. MARTA, bothered when blocked entering the first turn, had to be hard held again along the backstretch when blocked and hemmed in on the rail, came between horses in the stretch and wore down RENEW in the final stride. The latter trailed in the opening six furlongs, came through on the rail with a rush in the stretch, gained the lead between calls in the final furlong and just failed. VALADIUM, never far back, moved up stoutly in the stretch and also gained command , briefly between calls inside the furlong post, then faltered nearing the end. SICKLES IMAGE vied for command on the rail early, dropped back under rating on the final turn, went up under pressure to reach the lead in the stretch and shortened stride in the drive. TOTO had no excuse. THELMA BERGER moved up quickly on the outside along t"he backstretch to be in command and drew out on the final turn, then tired in the final three-sixteenths mile. The latter went into a commanding lead before a quarter mile and had nothing- left for the real test. FREEDOM WINS, allowed to settle into stride early, closed with good courage.
