I., June 28. The New England racing scene shifts to Rhode Island on Monday for a 24-daystand at Narragansett Park, ending on July 26 with the nineteenth running of the 0,000 Governors Handicap. The" governors is the grand finale of a series of four week-end stakes, starting with next Saturdays ,500 King Philip Handicap at a mile and sixteenth. The highlight of the summer meeting is the seventh running of the 5,000 Providence Stakes to be held on July 12. The third week-end of the meet, July 19, will be highlighted by the sixth renewal of the ,500 Narragansett Nursery Stakes for two-year-olds at five and a half furlongs. During the interim between stakes dates, many of the overnight races have been styled so as to serve as preps for the aspiring handicap stars. A daily purse distribution averaging between 2,000 and 3,000 will prevail during the next 24 days. The first condition book covering a 12 day period list a minimum purse of ,000. Always a colorful affair, this opening of the summer program is expected to eclipse all previous ones. Recognizing the support accorded racing by the women of New England down through the years, Gansett has arranged a gala occasion for the weaker sex. Admission to the clubhouse has 1 i ! been reduced for women and a fashion show will be presented Monday afternoon by Betty Rand of the fashionable Providence specialty shop. The firrst 500 ladies entering the clubhouse will be presented with gardenia corsages. Over 400 new thoroughbreds will make their 1952 debut at the impending meeting in addition to many of the better "regulars" which liave been racing at Lincoln and Suffolk Downs this season. The official, family is largely the same as in recent years with R. Norman Charlton and Leo ODonnell filling the posts of track stewards, with Edward J. "Hap" Fenelon, Jr. in his customary spot as state steward. The response to the four stakes on the summer meeting agenda has been very gratifying. The King Philip attracted 20 nominations. White Oak Stables Blue Man, leading contender for sophomore honors this year, heads an illustrious list of nominations for the Providence Stakes. Jampol and King Jolie, who have been arch rivals of the blue swords colt, are also eligible for the big event of the "Gansett summer session. A total of 52 juveniles have been named for the Narragansett Nursery Stakes. The Governors Handicap drew 21 nominations. The opening days card is very fitting with a pair of ,000 allowance events attracting small but classy fields. The seventh race finds Eddie Siravos three -year-old Royal Marvel meeting older rivals for the first time this season at six furlongs. The son of Royal Nap will match strides against Mrs. J. M. Branhams Shadows Start, with each carrying 109 pounds. G. S. Smiths Handsome Teddy is also in the dash and if the son of Flushing n. does not need a race, he figures to be very prominent. Others in the sprint are Simms, Liberty Rab, Duke Aumar and Questagain, each a worthy opponent for the Siravo Volt to compete against. The sixth race is styled for sophomores exclusively over the mile and a sixteenth route. The field includes E. P. Rodriguez Academy Award and Rebel Stables Shell Diver, who will run as a coupling. The others in the middle distance event are Cellini, Brother Ghost, Balsa, Scientist, Goyonder and Classy Chance.
