Harness Owners, Trainers To Be Honored Tomorrow They and Their Friends Will Be Guests at Sportsmans Dinner SPORTSMANS PARK, Cicero, 111., June 28. Sportsmans Park will have a special night Tuesday, July 1, in honor of harness horse owners and trainers, when Chicago Downs officials will stage a party for the horsemen and their friends. Donald Burnett, president of the sulky association now racing at Sportsmans Park, said that more than 4,000 friends of the horse owners will be guests of the track at the buffet dinner Tuesday. "It was about time the track should do something for the people who make harness racing possible," Burnett said. "We have given each owner 100 or more tickets and told them to invite their friends to a special dinner weare going to have for them." The races on Tuesday will be named in honor of the various horsemen who wanted to contribute a special trophy for the event. Therefore, every winner on the card of nine races will receive a blanket "cooler" and a trophy. Those who have contributed trophies and who will have races named in their honor aref C. F. Rumley, Dee Stover, E. F. Wagner, Jordan Brothers, Eleanore James, William Pajsley, Paul Daugherty, Mrs. Jack Cooper and E. T. "Jock" Burright. Handling the details for the party is owner George Wilson, of Western Springs, veteran sulky patron, and he is extremely enthusiastic about the success of the event. Wilson said. "After all, they have nights for ball players, radio announcers and other sports celebrities. Why not honor the men and women who foot the bills to bring along pacers and trotters who entertain the public every night for nearly six months a year?" In explanation, Wilson continued, "There will be some surprises that we-cannot talk about now." It is reported That several especially popular trainers and drivers will be honored in surprise ceremonies. Next weeks schedule of racing at Sportsmans Fark will present no fewer than 15 stakes. Heading the list is a ,000 pace event set for next Saturday, July 5. H. D. Hanover, the classy four-year-old pacer, owned by R. A. Warren of Peoria, tops a stellar field of nine prospects. This horse has gone the mile in less than 2:04 on two occasions already this year, and in 1951 scored a 1:59 mile as a three-year-old. Other entrants in the Saturday stake event are: Rush Hour, Chief Strong, Grat-ton Truax. Mr. Dale, Goose Island, Atomic Might and Theodores First.
