MISS SMITH shook off challengers early, increased advantage when roused entering the stretch, but was tiring at the end. LADY SAILOR saved ground behind the first flight, came out for an opening between horses in the stretch and then closed fast. LE REGENT -raced on the outside making up distance from a slow start and finished strongly. PIPING GOOD raced slightly wide into the stretch and could not get up. SHANKS MARE raced well through the stretch.. WEE BONNIE and BARBOURSVILLE faltered. IRISHFORLUCK bore out on the far turn. SONORA BELL was urged to secure a prominent position, raced slightly wide on the turn, then continued determinedly in the stretch drive and was up to best FREDS GIFT. The latter raced into a long early lead, saved all possible ground and retained the advantagejintil the last yards, then suddenly weakened. PREXY MAC raced wide behind the top -pair and did not seriously threaten. LIGHTSPEED was sluggish early, despite urging, and closed belatedly. PAGE PUG raced very wide. METAXA AND MISS FRAN WERE FRACTIOUS AT THE GATE AND ORDERED WITHDRAWN BY ADVICE FROM THE VETERINARIAN. CONSOLATION DAILY DOUBLES WERE PAID ON METAXA AND MISS FRAN AND ALL OTHER WAGERS WERE REFUNDED. SLIDE APART displayed the most speed from the beginning, saved all possible ground and showed the way in handy fashion. MATHEMATICIAN steadily improved position from a slow beginning and closed strongly at the end to wear down FIRE FIRE FIRE. The latter, forced to lose ground outside horses on the turn, made a mild bid on the stretch turn and weakened. COMESOUTEVEN faced wide outside horses throughout., OUR CHAMPION closed well from a slow beginning. PADDYS DAY was outrun. LANGHOLM and LUCKY PORTER were blocked and taken up at the far turn. ALLADIER raced between rivals down the backstretch, could not stay with CANDLE WOOD rounding the turn, but responded to punishment and outfinished CHAT NOIR II. The latter never was far back and finished well. SETABUL could not reach serious contention. ROMAN MIRAGE was briskly ridden from the beginning, staged a prolonged duel with HANWAR and drew clear from that rival in the last sixteenth. HANWAR gained an early advantage while saving ground, fought it out into the final stages and weakened. WOODLANDS was forced wide into the stretch, then finished well. ROYAL FAN came around horses with a late rally. IMMENSE bean slowly, raced into contention on the inside, but bore out entering the stretch and weakened. ASHENDEN attempted to bear out in the stretch and was taken under restraint. 1 UP broke slowly and was taken to the outside. Scratched— 18225 Next Page, 113. SIDE SADDLE, allowed to settle in stride, raced into contention batween horses down the backstretch, then took to the outside at the far turn and quickly put away rivals in the drive to win with speed in reserve. JERRYS BEST rushed to the front when roused at the half mile, could not resist the winner, but held FAT BOY safe. The latter, snugly rated close to the pace, made a good bid on the stretch turn and hung. READY TO WEAR hobbled repeatedly, but finished well. HALCYON CHANCE was outrun. BLUE LAW and the others quit. The latter was closing well when crowded on the final turn, then finished strongly when clear in the stretch. An objection lodged by the rider on FREE WILL against VALENTINOIS was not allowed. ALLOYED raced through on the inside to loom threateningly in the early stretch, but swerved and weakened under punishment HARBASH gradually raced to the pace from the outside, gained a clear lead after a half mile, but faltered.
