Big Influx of Horses to Arlington Park Under Way for Meet Opening Thursday Crack Two-Year-Old Field 4 To Contest Primer Stakes On Inaugural Day Program ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, 111., June 22.— All roads lead to Arlington Park as hundreds of thoroughbreds pour in for the twenty-eighth annual opening Thursday of Americas richest summer racing.- The 35-day meeting gets under way with the twelfth running of the 5,000-added Primer Stakes and the co-featured Doris Day Purse. This year, for the first time, Arlington departed from its customary Monday opening via a quirk in the racing date schedule. Nevertheless, advance reservations indicate unusual interest has been generated by the general public. . The nomination of 55 two-year-olds to the Primer Stakes Thursday indicates exceptional competition and interest in that division. Most of the countrys leading stables are represented, and many of those named already have raced impressively. Among those juveniles named for the five-and one-half furlongs sprint that have performed well to date are Sunnyside Stables Beau Busher, winner of a stake at Bay Meadows; Carl Grahams Will See, Bowie Kindergarten victor; Hasty House ► : Farms Silver Robby and Prince Noor, Sam E. Wilsons Top Traffic, F: "W. Hoopers Intelilgent, and C. F. Morris- Munchausen. The Doris Day Purse, ,500 six-furlong event for four-year-olds and upward, will serve as a prep event for handicap runners. The race has been named in honor of movielands lovely lady of song. Aside from the usual top-level racing that has long been a part of the Arlington label, the tracks expansive .improvement program has created new interest among turf followers. Only last Sunday some 10,-000 journeyed to the northwest suburban plant to get an ouen-house preview of the new attractions. Arlingtons traditional beauty and comfort has been greatly increased with the addition of complete and new escalator service, expanded mutuel, seating and concession facilities and general modernization and redecorating. Now, more than 30,000 fans can be seated. All this, added to the vast* 14,000-car parking areas, low admissions and accessibility by bus, auto and rail, makes Arlington the most convenient sports scene in the Chicago area. Saturdays 5,000-added Warren Wright Memorial has attracted 25 nominees. In order to bring the best horses, stables and riders to Chicago, Arlington is offering ,950,000 gross in stakes and overnight purses. To name a few, the Arlington Classic will gross about 55,000, the Arlington Handicap, 60,000; Arlington Futurity, 50,000, and the Arlington Lassie, 05,000. Besides those, the track will present such nationally famous events as the 0,000 Equipoise Mile, 0,000 Arlington Matron, four stakes at 5,000-added, three at 0,000 and two at 5,000.
