Eight Sprinters Compete In St. Louis Hills Purse Six-Furlong Fairmount Feature Draws Hopeful Sam, Scarlet Time By C. A. LINDEMAN Staff Correspondent FAIRMOUNT PARK, Collinsville, 111., June 22. — Eight sprinters have been named to compete in the St. Louis Hills Purse, top race of a nine-race program carded for the mid-week card here. This field of .eight will match strides over the popular six-furlong distance for a purse of ,500 value. Although there are eight named, there will be only seven interests due to the entry of We Dood It and Hopeful Sam, which will race as Mr. and Mrs. H. Triplett entry. Hopeful Sam, winner of a recent allowance affair at six furlongs,- rates the top spot in the featured event. This seven-year-old sprinter carried the Tripletts colors to a very impressive victory in defeating such good short-distance runners as Cross End and Port o* Gold. The son of Beau Tod doesnt seem to have the fast-breaking advantage as some horses do .from the gate, but once he gets to moving, he really turns it on. In winning his last race, he came from, behind to get the lead a sixteenth out and, under urging, was going away steadily at the end, winning by a half-length margin in 1:11%. His race prior to that winning effort was also good, due to the fact that he ran second to Crossbow Girl over a heavy racing strip. Rita Cues eight-year-old mare, Scarlet Time, winner of two out of four starts at this meeting, looms as the major foe in the St. Louis Hills event. Her last race was a decisive victory, winning by the wide margin of two and one-half lengths over Ella Villa and First Spin at six furlongs in 1:11%. Her other victory here also was at six furlongs, in which she won by four lengths in 1:12 flat. Crossbow Girl, winner of one race here this season at six furlongs, figures a trifle best of the others. Her best and winning race was over a heavy racing strip and, from the outlook at this time, there is every chance that an off track will be the order of tonights racing. Bright Imp, Real Sir, Nans Pride and Coral Princess make up the field for the main attraction in tonights feature.
