TRUE BRUCE moved willingly from the outside before entering the stretch and, under stiff pressure was up in the last yards. PASSING AGE dropped back in the backstretch, rallied on the final turn to reach the lead into the stretch, swerved out, then swerved in, and racing erratically remainder of- the trip just missed. He was disqualified and placed fourth after Jockey Reil claimed foul against first three horses. QUITE WELL established the pace and held on with good courage while just not good enough. LUSTRE PROOF moved inside the leader going to the far turn, was. forced to take up and, after dropping back, recovered gamely to make another attempt to go through along the inside, had to be checked again, then .attempting to move between leaders in the stretch, was bothered by PASSING AGE. and going1o~the inside in the-late yards was in tight quarters at the finish. POWER BIT was moving willingly in the early itretcluwhen -bothered by erratic tactics of PASSING AGE. FLUFFY McDUFFY showed little. MR. RASCAL gave way in the drive. YON turned in a dull effort. ILLUMINATE showed good speed but gave way in the stretch run. CHANCE MOON broke sluggishly and failed to reach contention. CUTE JOB had speed down the backstretch. NOBLE EMPRESS was hustled after tearing the gate sluggishly, reached the lead leaving the far turn and in a stiff stretch duel with TRY SID outfinished that nval. The latter had good speed from the gate, could not keep up- with the winner on the turn, moved to even terms with that one in the early stretch and was not quite good enough. GREY BEAU moved well into the stretch and finished gamely. BIG MOON, never too far back, closed ground in the stretch run. MR. MARK M. was away alertly, but gave ground gradually. SCOTCH VIEW reached the lead after five furlongs, was momentarily headed by SMILESTONE before entering the stretch and, after drawing off, won with speed to spare. SMILESTONE was put to pressure after entering the backstretch, gave a quick response with a bold move which carried him to the lead between calls before entering the stretch, then hung in the final eighth. WHAT A STEP held sway for five furlongs and then weakened slightly. MAGIC BIRD tried to get out on the turns and could not rally in the stretch run. GOSH was no serious threat. NERVOUS NELL broke sluggishly, quickly gained a forward position, had to be steadied on the final turn along the inside when lacking racing room, finally gained room into the stretch and, under pressure held safe MAXS REWARD. The latter rushed boldly leaving the far turn, reached near even terms with the winner inside the final sixteenth then hung "m the last yards.* MR. GUNNER had to take back from between horses going to the far turn, then rallied along the inside in the stretch run and finished willingly. . FLYING JIB drifted off the rail into the stretch and weakened. after setting the pace. JOHNS PAL was no threat. ROYAL TAWNY gave ground in" the stretch run. DANCE-A-JIG was going willingly .in the stretch run under punishment. FAIRMONT closed ground when too late. PONDER LEA showed little. BLENHEIM SUN had speed for five furlongs.
