Fonner Program Honors Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben Miss Rossie Heads Fine Sprint Group Meeting in Top Offering By DEAN WILLIAMS FONNER PARK, Grand Island. Nebr., April 30.— The Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben will be the honored guests at Fonner P?.rk on Thursday. The world renowned philanthropic group sponsors the Ak-Sar-Ben race meeting in Omaha, which opens a 35-day season *on May 20. Leroy Clums Miss Rissie has an excellent chance to gain her second victory of the year in the Knights of Ak-Sar-Ben Purse at 5 1-2 furlongs. The four-year-old daughter of Fleeting Star accounted for her first winning effort at Turf Paradise in Phoenix. She turned in a front-running performance to defeat Schnoz-Durante by one and one-half lengths. Miss Rlssie covered the three-quarters of a mile in the very good time of 1:105s. The Clum colorbearer has two starts over the local five-eighths of a mile oval. One was very Impressive, while the other was on the disappointing side. Her first appearance here found her finishing second to the highly regarded Sonny Boy S. In her most recent engagement, she found the 6 1-2 furlongs top far and finished unplaced behind Scomber and Borego. Jockey William Drennen had the assignment on Miss Rlssie in both of her previous efforts and will again have the call on her in Thursdays feature. The group of allowance performers rounding out Thursdays sprint are Barn-Dancer, Big Bargain. The Snapper, Ill Wait, Gypsy Dan, Augusta Wind and Childers. J. Lee Klesners Ill Wait is the only one in the field that has won at the current meeting. ■
