Queens Horse Scores; Bald Eagle Unplaced Pall Mall Whips Major Portion In 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket By VERNON MORGAN Reuters Sports Editor NEWMARKET, England, April 30.— The American-owned favorite. Bald Eagle, ran, unplaced in the 2,000 Guineas classic which was won today by Queen Elizabeths Pall Mall. The 20-to-l winner is trained by Capt. Cecil Boyd-Rochfort who also trains Bald Eagle for Harry F. Guggenheim. It was Boyd-Rochforts first triumph in this opening classic of the English flat season which is run over the straight mile here. Pall Mall, whose sire Palestine won this race in 1950, held on gamely in a driving duel throughout the last furlong to win by a half length from Major Portion, 5-to- -1 second choice. Three "lengths behind, Nagami nipped the French-trained Val Doisans for the place in a photo finish. Nagami started at 8-to-l. Val Doisans is owned by the American, A. Untermyer. Pall Mall won a great race to give the Queen her second classic success. She won the Oaks last year with Carrozza, With five wins to her credit this season so far. Queen Elizabeth has made a fine start in her bid to top the winning owners list for the second straight season. Pall Malls victory today boosted the Queens stake winnings to 8,967 but she was unable to watch her gallant colt as intended as she is recovering from a cold.
