Chief Bud Front-Running Winner of Detroit Dash Lasts to Hold Heres Harvey Safe in Final Drive to Wire FATR GROUNDS, Detroit, Mich., June 11. — Warmer weather followed light rains at Detroit and some 14,000 patrons turned out for todays sport. The track has been brought to peak condition with the result that more horses have completed training and larger fields are in evidence for Wednesdays program. Chief Bud, racing for Mrs. Fred Sharpe, was a front-running winner of the first race, a gallop of one mile and an eighth, when after opening up a long lead almost immediately after the start, he held sway to last long enough to retain a half-length margin of victory before Mrs. R. Grundys favored Heres Harvey. Only a head farther back in the field of 10, Mrs. E. H. Beezleys Erazel was a stubborn third. The winner was ridden by apprentice Harold Wallace and returned . From the outset it was Chief Bud who had the most speed. He took a short lead over Markability as the leaders swung into the backstretch and increased it to four lengths as the half - mile marker was reached. Erazel was racing next in line and the leading trio continued in this order into the stretch. Here Markability chucked it to wilt into the discard and Erazal was placed to pressure on the outside. Meanwhile, Heres Harvey had been far back in the running but improved his position quickly on the turn. Straight in the stretch, Heres Harvey found room between horses and swung to the inside to make his challenge. Finishing fast, as Chief Bud showed signs of weakening, Heres Harvey was slowly wearing the leader down on the inside as Erazal was doing his best on the outside.
