Youth May Repeat and Win Hambletonian Second Time GOSHEN, N. Y.— Youth, as typified by 37-yearrold Del Miller, won the Hambletonian stake here last year. On August 8, youth may again be well served as at least five young men appear to be more than ready to wallop the long-standing record of the oldsters such as Ben White, 78; Fred Egan, 71, and Tom Berry, 69. Gib White, at 37, is a true chip off the old block of Ben, and has True Boy, winner of his first race this year. Pel Miller was close behind True Boy with Watcha in their initial start at Toledo. Scotch Rhythm, piloted by Ralph Baldwin, 35, won his second* start, also at Toledo, in 2:04%, fast early-season time. Mahloh Hanover, spring book favorite for the Hambletonian and second in his inital 1951 start, is driven by Joe OBrien, 33 years old. Two years ago, when Miss Tilly copped the worlds richest trotting race, Fred Egan piloted the filly. The year before, youth again held the spojtlight when Harrison Hoyt, amateur pilot from Bethel, Conn., and only 38 at the time, won with his. own Demon Hanover. Bust most of the victories at Ball Canes kite-shaped track have been chalked up to such vets as Ben White; Sep Palin, now 72; Henry Thomas, now 62, and Tom Berry. Nat Ray, stil racing at 68, was ony 43 when he won the inaugural Hambletonian in 1926.
