May 5. —Ombrage accounted for the Capitol City Handicap, the fifth and feature race at Heulah Park today, and set a new track record for the distance, which was at one mile and one-sixteenth, negotiating it in l:4t%, two-fifths of a second faster than the previous record. The winner held sway at all stages after racing into a quick lead from the start and had something in reserve. When Rockford made a resolute bid on the outside of the winner while rounding the turn for home Majestic urged the leader slightly and Ombrage then drew Ottt handily in the stretch run to win by a comfortable margin. Rockford held the others safe at the end for second place. Rough and Ready, prominent at all stages, lost ground in racing wide on the turn for home, but came again in the final sixteenth mile and earned third place. A marked increase in the attendance came with a return to warmer weather and ideal conditions prevailed for the running of the program of well filled and closely contested races. The opening race, a dash of four and a half furlongs for juveniles, resulted in a handy win for W R. Padgetts Am I F arly. marking this fillys second win at the meeting and setting a new track record for the distance. Avhich was negotiated in :."»5 flat, on. -fifth of a second faster than the previous mark. Kaaaakanl outstayed Golden Dust for second place in the stretch struggle. Ixniiso Wagner just lasted to save the victory in the closing strides of the second race, after showing the most speed through- out. Black Friday was pressing the win- nor closely all the last eighth and was gaining rapidly. Huzzas came from behind in the stretch run to be third. T. H. Kveritt took the measure of his opiH.nents handily in the third race and graduated from the maiden ranks in show- ing the most speed all the last half of the way. Oneida came clear of early interference in the stretch and outstayed Oicero-? nian for second place in the final drive. Ix g Fire scored a hard earned victory over Hoover and Quintana Roo in the fourth but had to be hard ridden for the entire distance to retain a slight lead to the end. Nettie May made a show of her opponent! in the closing stages of the sixth race in steadily drawing away into an easy lead all the hist tuarter. the contest being run over a distance of one and one-eighth miles. The Comi»etitor outgamed Gail Ford for the place in the stretch test. «
