Dick Welles Selections At Pimlico tHN BOAT— CASETTF— BEAIVAL. We are pic-kins the son of Man o War, GUX BOAT, to beat CASETTE in the steeplechase which opens the days proceedings. He has proved to be a good jumper and has one win to his credit over the fences. Inasmuch as he is the only one of those entered in this event to win a race, we feel duty bound to place him on top. CASETTE pot in first Tuesday, but was disqualified for short weight. Her rider had one long to be remembered ride then, for when he passed the judges stand he was riding the filly bare back. He had lost his saddle shortly after the race was under way and that also accounted for his mount being disqualified. On the strength of that showing, CASETTE should be closest to GUN BOAT at the finish. BEAUVAh showed fairly in his first time to the races, and may be good enough for the show. XORTHI.AXD-PILLOTTA— LONG JOE. Some of the future greats of the turf world are to hook up in the second offering, a four and a half furlongs dash for maiden juveniles. NORTHLAND turned in an impressive race in his only start, and basing on that effort he should be the one to score here. He landed in third position and was only beaten half a length for the first money. PILLOTTAS record to date reads one second in as many starts. He acted like a comer but appeared to be just a bit short of a winning race. He should be good enough to get the place money today. LONG JOE has shown nothing in his two races to date, but has turned in some fine workouts, and a race to those trials would find him close up at the finish. A. P. CAXALE— OUTING— HANDCLASP. The consistent A. P. CANALE will measure strides with six other two-year-olds in the third, known as the Potomac Purse. He is going to meet some stiff competition, but for all of it. looks all over the winner. The nearest thing in the race to him is OUTING. She was given a race at Havre de Grace and won it like a good one. It is just possible that Salmon has an extra good one in this filly by Campfire. HANDCLASP graduated from the maiden ranks on the occassion of her last start. She is possessed with a good flight of speed and may make the race interesting for the others. Of the remainder, Murzin looks to be the best. CANTER— SUN PAL— EDISTO. An excellent race is promised in the fourth, the Pimlico Spring Handicap, with ,500 added. Thirteen good ones were named for the contest, among them being the crack CANTER. He gets in with second top weight, sharing that distinction with S1N-OLE FOOT and EDISTO. His race in the Chesapeake Stakes a week ago was all that could be asked of him, as he was making his first start of his three-year-old career, and also suffered from a kick by another starter while at the post. The race should have done him a world of good and if he would put forth the same efforts today think k he wculd he the winner here. SUN PAL L gained sorrx distinction by scoring a win n over the mighty Sarazen and then finishing p second to him in the Dixie Handicap last ■ Monday. He appears to be a much better r racer this year and will very likely cause e the winner all kinds of trouble if he races in n the same manner. EDISTO is in rare form n at the present and if his showing in the Dixie were thrown out he would be good 2 cue ugh for the show honors. MOTHERS i SOX will be watched by many in the running, ■• as Be put up a game race in his first start I in this country last Tuesday. REDSTONE— FEYSUN— SIR LEONID. REDSTONE appears to be in a spot to 0 his liking in the fifth race, the Equitable e Handicap. He lost two hard races in his s last starts, losing by a nose in one, and a a neck in the other. The company he meeta a here is not near so classy as that which he e has been meeting, and it would be surprising S if he were to meet defeat. FEYSUN figures s to be nearest to the winner at the finish, « but he doesnt rate anywheres near the former. ~ He has had plenty of racing this spring but seems unable to find his racing 5 legs. SIR LEONID gets in with 98 pounds, !, and at the weights may be the one to land 1 in the third position. STARRAY— ORANGE GLOW— BOBBY JONES. The sixth race, which is the second division . of the second, brings to the post some , two-year-olds, but hardly up to the grade of those in the second race. STARRAY showed in his one race that he can keep i step with any of them, and taking a line , through that performance, should be the one ~ , to score here. ORANGE GLOW was given a winter campaign at Miami, where she » falied to win a race in her three starts. Since arriving here she has been turning in , some fine moves and a race to those, trials would find her well up at the finish BOBBY JONES showed fairly well in his 3 last start and is about due for a win. Think he will fill the three hole here. STORM KING— DUCKS AND DRAKES II. • —DIZZY BLONDE. Speed galore is entered in the final race , of the day. Instead of the usual gallop for platers, it is a handicap affair over the three-quarters distance, STORM KING is assigned second top weight in the race and well that he is, for he figures the best. His race in the Jennings Handicap Tuesday-found him among the also rans, but at that he was only beaten a little over two lengths for the first money. DUCKS AND DRAKES II. can run fast enough but it is problematical whether or not he can carry 126 pounds and still stay up in front. Top weight is his lot, and today will tell the tale. DIZZY BLONDE is a sprinter of extreme speed and her early foot may gain her the race THISTLEWOOD will have to be reckoned with in the running if she were to race to her Tijuana form.
