WHISKERY QUALIFIES FOR PREAKNESS HONORS CHESAPEAKE WINNER ♦ Defeats Sir Harry, Triton and Other Stars in Havre Stake. i Whitney Colt Scores Easily by Wide Margin — Thrilling Finish in Flash Handicap. • HAVRE DE GRACE, Md., April 30— Harry Payne Whitneys Whiskery won the 0,000 added Chesapeake Stakes at Havre de Grace this afternoon. Back of him was a band of shifty three-year-olds. Whiskery was ridden by L. Schaefer, and was a keen factor at all stages. In the early running he laid in he-hind the pacemaker, Triton, and was running apparently in hand to the stretch turn, where he moved into an easy lead and, drawing away in the last eighth, had a lead of five lengths over the Coffroth Handicap winner Sir Harry at the end. Then came the tiring pacemaker, Triton, beaten by half a length for second money. Candy Hog was fourth. Jopagan was sixth. He had a bit of hard luck in the race, being blocked after passing the half-mile post by the winner when Peternel attempted to slip through on the inside. The colt was moving up rapidly at the time and the interference tangled him all up and he dropped out of contention. FAIR STAR DISAPPOINTS. Fair Star, which was making her first appearance as a three-year-old, was never a factor. She began slowly and showed no si eed at any stage and was under restraint at the finish. The stake had a net value of $.02." to the winner. Shortly before the running heavy showers fell and the race was run over a sloppy track. The Flash Handicap furnished a thrilling finish when Lounger, Pandera and Rolls Royce passed the winning mark in the order named, noses apart. Lounger raced next the inside rail all the way, with Pandera on the outside of him. At the top of the home stretch Pandera had a slight advantage, but Lounger came again and took the lead at the sixteenth post and outlasted the filly in the final drive. Rolls Royce, which finished third, was on the outside of tne first two all the way. Contemplate refused to start and was left at the post. DANGEROUS NARROWLY. The Rosedale Stable supplied the winner of the Pacific Handicap, the last of the feature events to be decided, when Dangerous, sporting the colors of the above establishment, raced to a hard-earned victory to beat the Harry Payne Whitney starter. Reminder, by a neck in a gruelling drive, and just a length back of the pair eaBM Walter J. Salmons mean-tempered colt. Display. Mark Master found a track that just suited him and ran one of his good races. Morris got him off well and, after racing with the leaders until rounding the far turn, went around on the outside with a rush and drew away into a good lead entering the home stretch. Under urging he lasted long en ugh to beat Long Point by a neck. Clydella was a tiring third, beaten four lengths for the place, and half a length in front of Ten Sixty. A rousing finish came with the running of the second race when Prince Bulbo came from behind in the stretch and. finishing with a rush, got up in the final strides to win by a neck from Skavar. The winner was lucky in escaping interference, which came in the last sixteenth, when Thuron swerved over to the inside, carrying Knight :ind All Callao over with him, causing the riders on these two to pull up. Another exciting finish came with the running of the third race, when Duckling came from behind in the stretch run to get up in the very last stride to win by the smallest of margins from Happy Birthday. Jockey Fishman. who has ridden several winners at the meeting won his bout with the Cyclone Kid at Elk Mills, Md.. last night. Fishman put his opponent away in four rounds. S. N. Holman ships the division of Unstable he is racing here to Aqueduct.
