ELKS HANDICAP TO DEPUTY COLUMBUS. O.. April 30.— Deputy, six-year-old son of Ambassador IV. — Blue Ballot, running in the interests of J. W. McMillens Thistle Down Stable, was the easiest sort of winner in the Elks Handicap, feature event of the afternoon over the mile and seventy yards route. T. W. Nicolins Optimist was second, with Little Clair, from the J. Bronnenburg barn, third. The start wa-s a walking one. with Deputy losing no time taking command, despite the fact that he bore out considerably at all times. He merely cantered along in front the entire journey under stout restraint, being allowed his head when Optimist, under the hard urging of Haidy, threatened to overhaul him. Bright, sunny skies again greeted the large throng that journeyed out to the course. but the cool wind which swept the stands made heavier wraps a comfort.
