ARRANGING HAVRE CAMPAIGN - E. F. Seagram and J. E. Smallman Sending Strings to Maryland. Canadian Sportsman Facing Keen Competition in Search of Purses Stakes Attract Crack Horses. HAVRE de GRACE, Md., April 3 E. F. Seagram and J. E. Smallman, Canadas leading sportsmen, are sending their stables here to vie with Americas best for the three ,500 stakes to be run during the Harford Agricultural and Breeders Associations twelve-day meeting, beginning Monday, April 15. The Canadian sportsmen will find the . sledding exceedingly rough, as Willis Sharpe Kilmer, C. V. Whitney, E. R. Bradley, A. G. Vanderbilt, Mrs. Payne Whitney, Mrs. John Hay Whitney, Glen Riddle Farm, Walter M. Jeffords, Foxcatcher Farms, Brandy-wine. Stable, A. C. Compton, W. W. Vaughan, George D. Widener, Joseph E. Widener, Bomar Stable and other outstanding American racing establishments will have their best on the grounds. Racing secretary Charles McLennan says that while he isnt in a position to make public the list of stake nominations, turf fans can rest assured that every first class American and Canadian two, three and older horses in training, will be eligible for the trio of ,500 purses. McLennan says that given good weather, he will offer the finest spring racing since this picturesque course was opened twenty-three years ago. Close students of racing agree with him for he will not only have the cream of the turf world to select from, but these horses will be skillfully handled by "Sonny" Workman, Wayne Wright, Don Meade, Johnny Gilbert, Alfred Robertson, Silvio Coucci, Carl Hanford, Joe Renick, Sammy Renick, Eddie Arcaro, Bobby Mer-ritt, Eddie Litzenberger, Georgie Watson and other saddle luminaries. Judging by the numerous requests for clubhouse and private boxes received from New York, Philadelphia,. Baltimore, Washington, Wilmington and other eastern cities, a capacity attendance will be on hand opening day. Turf fans are reminded that excellent highways lead here from every section of the East. On their arrival, fans will find free parking space on track property for more than 10,000 automobiles. Both the Pennsylvania and B. and O. railroads will operate daily race specials from Washington, Baltimore, New York, Philadelphia, Wilmington and Chester. These specials return to their respective cities, immediately after the completion of each days seven race program. Some fast times are being turned in by the, various Chesapeake, Aberdeen and Philadelphia candidates already andon . the grounds. Horsemen are particularly impressed with Walter M. Jeffords Commonwealth, early favorite for the ,500 Chesapeake on April 20. This gelding, who is being handled by the astute Preston M. Burch, is also second choice to J. E. Wideners Peace Chance for the approaching Kentucky Derby.
