WALTER MORTON broke well from the outside position and, showing good speed, was rushed into a good lead in the first quarter, but had to be ridden out to hold PRINCESS JUAN safe. The latter closed with a rush on the outside and was wearing the winner down. SIR AJAX broke well, raced wide on the lower turn, and finished gamely when straightened but in the stretch. POPULAR VOTE, forced ,to race wide to enter contention, weakened in the final eighth. WONDER RUN tired. PHIL MARCUS was outrun. Overweight Walter Morton, 3 pounds. SECOND RACE 5 1-2 FURLONGS. SCRAMBOLA dropped back slightly on the lower turn, worked her way up between horses in the stretch and finished gamely. STRAIGHT PLAY made a game bid on the lower turn and held on gamely. REDINS, close to the early pace, raced MORTIME into the ground entering the stretch and, holding on well, held THROUGH FAIRLY safe in a driving finish. THROUGH FAIRLY, well placed in the early running, worked her way up gradually on the outside and finished fastest. MORTIME broke fast, was sent into a good lead in the first quarter mile and held on well though tiring. THE MISS closed gamely in the final quarter COME ALONG was outrun. HUNTER LYON, away fast, showed good speed setting the pace,- saved ground entering the stretch, came again after being headed by ABE FURST and just failed to win. ABE FURST forced the pace, raced to the outside entering the stretch, took a short lead, but tired badly. SETHS QUEEN tired in the final eighth. SLIMAWAY, pulled up at the start, closed gamely. BONNIE CAP, well placed in the early running, saved ground all the way, but did not threaten the first two. BLUE FOAM lacked her usual early speed. REIGH ROSE tired.
