OFF-DAY CARD AT BEMONT Exhibit Beats TJiorspn in Linden Handicap, Best of Fridays Program Ideal Conditions. NEW YORK, N. Y., May 31. With a program of overnight races following the big Decoration Day program at Belmont Park, the test offering Friday was the Linden Handicap, at one mile, for those of. Class. C in the Graded Handicaps. It brought victory to Mrs. C. Oliver Iselins Exhibit, when, in a good, game race, he scored over Buckley M. Byers Thorson, and George Odoms Chancing saved third from Willis Sharp e Kilmers Sun Area easily. After a rainy forenoon, conditions were pleasant for the sport and the downpour had little effect on the footing. The crowd was a big one, considering the entertainment offered. In this mile handicap, Chancing and Exhibit were the ones to cut all the pace. Chancing just had his head before the son, of Display, but could not shake him off, and when the stretch was reached it was Exhibit that drew away. Sammy Renick kept him right at his task in. the run through the straight and he was still two and one-half lengths clear as he crossed the line. Chancing ran an improved race over his recent effort, but it was not up to his Florida form and doubtless he needed the race. He tired in the final furlong and Thorson ran him down to take the place by a length. Chancing was four lengths before Sun Arena and the Kilmer colt had beaten Sang Froid by three lengths. Sablin was the only other starter and he cut no figure in the running. The first race brought out a big field of maiden juvenile fillies and it resulted in a fighting finish when Victor Emanuels Lady Roma, under a good ride by "Sonny" Workman, just beat Marshall Fields Gentle Tryst and, far back of the pair, Charles Golds Muriellynn saved third from Greybroom. The hunting set had their opportunity in the Herculoid Steeplechase, for hunters, with amateurs to ride. Only four started, but it brought an exciting finish when Frank M. Goulds What Have You, under a drive by W. F. Streett, his trainer, just lasted to beat N. S. Ludingtons Gaston, ridden by H. H. J. Thomas. Mrs. Frank M. Goulds Daniel Soot, with R. B. Young up, was a distant third and the only other one, Mrs. John Hay Whitneys Cold Punch, ridden by J. V. H. Davis and the choice of the company, was at all times last. What Have You gave an excellent performance, when, under the top weight of 164 pounds, he made all the pace for the trying route and then fought it out with rare gameness to withstand the rush of Gaston. Chance Ray was a surprise winner when he scored for Mrs. W. Plunkett Stewart in the fifth race, for which G. W. Ogles Miney Myerson was the choice. Jack Howards Albuquerque also whipped the favorite when he raced to second place, Miney Myerson running- one of his dull races. The only other starter was Shot Proof. Trainer J. P. Smith completed a double when he sent G. H. Bostwicks Crete to the post in the final race of the day. The winner was ridden by "Sonny" Workman and iassumed command entering the stretch and at the finish had speed in reserve. Workman shared in the double by riding Lady Roma anTCrete.
