MUDDY FOOTING AT OMAHA Heavy Rains Turn Course Into a Quagmire Large Crowd Despite Poor Weather. OMAHA, Neb., May 31. Heavy rains throughout last night, which continued until almost race time today, converted the Ak-Sar-Ben course into a quagmire, and the inclement weather had a tendency to hold down the attendance. However, in spite of the conditions, the attendance of some 3,000 patrons was regarded as excellent by the officials of the course. The program embraced seven races of a claiming order. Some interesting sport resulted, considering the caliber of racers that performed. The six furlongs dash occupying fifth position on the card was the days best offering, bringing together seven contestants, with the decision going to Mrs. E. Mc-Cowns three-year-old filly Bebest by the margin of a length and a half over Miss Delba. Friend John,- the eary pacemaker, along with Zorana, held on "long enough for third place. Outsiders accounted for the majority of the races on the bill.
