VACATION FOR ROMAN SOLDIER Passes Up Latonia, Detroit and American Derbys Classic at Arlington Next Objective. HOMEWOOD, III., May 31 Phil Reuter, trainer of Roman Soldier and part owner of the colt with Elwood Sachsenmaier, announced today that it had been, decided not to ship the Texas Derby winner to Kentucky for the Latonia Derby and that the son of Cohort and Miamba would be given a long rest. Reuter did not know how long a layoff would be given "Roman Soldier pending a talk with Sachsenmaier, who is in the East. The colt has been racing steadily since December, winning the Hialeah Inaugural and Bahama Handicaps at Hialeah Park, the Texas Derby, and finishing second in the Kentucky and Illinois Derbys. It is believed, however, that Roman Soldier, which is riot a rugged type, will pass up the Detroit and American Derbys, which are scheduled for "this month, to await the Arlington Classic late in July. Reuter thinks the colt again will be able to take his place among the top ranking three-year-olds after his vacation.
