BELMONT STAKES TRIALS ! Red Rain and Jean Bart Work Full Distance of iy2 Miles. Granville and Teufel Go 1 1-8 Miles in Fashion to Indicate Readiness for Saturdays Big Rice. : NEW YORK, N. Y., June 3 C. V. Whitneys Red Rain had a useful trial for his engagement in the mile and a half of the famous old Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park this morning when he was sent along for the full route in 2:344,. The son of Pennant and Dustemall galloped along in a fashion to indicate that he will be a keen colt when he goes to the post. Walter M. Jeffords Jean Bart was another that was sent the Belmont distance and he shaded the time of the Whitney eligible when he was caught in 2:33. Like Red Rain he had plenty in reserve all through the long gallop and it was an entirely satisfactory move. James Fitzsimmons brought both Wm. Woodwards Granville and the Wheatley Stables Teufel from Aqueduct for their final but they were only asked to go a mile and a furlong over the big course. They finished out strongly in 1:52 and were running at the end in a fashion to show a readiness for the mile and a half. Granville tired in the mile and a quarter of the Suburban Handicap, in which he was barely beaten by the four-year-old Fire-thorn, but that race evidently did" him considerable good in his march on the Belmont and Fitzsimmons is confident he will run a better race Saturday. Teufel, which earned a close decision over Granville in the running of the Wood, also impressed in the move. At this time, there is a promise that the Belmont field will be made up of Joseph E. Wideners Brevity, Wm. Woodwards Granville, Wheatley Stables Teufel, Hal Price Headleys Hollyrood, Brookmeade Stables Corundum, C. V. Whitneys Red Rain, Edward R. Bradleys Bien Joli, Greentree Stables Memory Book, Walter M. Jeffords Jean Bart and there is a possibility that Tatterdemalion will be sent out as a running mate I for Red Rain. The son of St. Germans has not accomplished a great deal but should race well over a mile and a half.
