LONG BRANCH MEETING ENDS Abbatoro Victorious in Feature at Popular Toronto Track Bit of Sorrow in Place Position. TORONTO, Ont., June 17. The Parkwood Stables Abbatoro drove to a half length victory in the Dufferin Park Handicap, mile and one-sixteenth closing day feature at Long Branch, scoring his victory at the expense of Lloyd Gentrys Bit of Sorrow, while third went to Mrs. J. Badames Trey, which was three additional lengths away in the field of seven. Hastinola, coupled with Bit of Sorrow as the Mrs. R. Fairbanks and L. Gentry entry, was fourth after setting most of the pace. The race was the third of the year for the Parkwood Stable representative, he having scored in the Bryan and OHara Memorial Handicap at Thorncliffe Park and later figured in a dead heat for second place over this track. Abbatoro was well ridden by jockey H. Lindberg and his score completed a double for that rider, who had been astride Miss Scott in the opening number. The start of the Dufferin was a good one but immediately after the field was in motion Sock Dologer caused slight interference when he bore to the inside and Lindberg was compelled to ease his charge out of difficulty. When clear and in full stride Abbatoro was nursed along back of the pace of Hastinola and her running mate, Bit of Sorrow. This order remained unchanged until the leaders swung into the stretch, when Hastinola displayed signs of distress and Bit of Sorrow moved into a short lead on the outside of the tiring Hastinola. It was at this juncture that Abbatoro was asked for his best and swinging to the outside of the leaders he slowly wore them down and was going away at the finish. Bit of Sorrow supplied stiff contention to the finish but Trey, which had always raced well placed, was able to dislodge the laboring Hastinola for third. Overcast skies did not deter an excellent attendance from visiting the west side course for the final days sport. Despite overnight rains, the track remained fast and the threat of rain did not materialize. Worthy Duke, T. S. Cochenours fleet home-bred sprinter, proved best of the band of seven which met in the secondary feature, the six furlongs Prest o Lite Handicap that was offered as the fourth race. Without being asked for his best, the son of Worthmore loped across the finish line one and a quarter lengths before the D. and M. Stables Hittie, with third going to M. Keelings Easter Hatter. The veteran jockey N. Foden rode the winner. It was the second appearance under silks this year for Worthy Duke.
