AGAWAMS NEW MllfCEL HIGH Handle Highest for Week-Day Since Beginning of Meeting Eldee Takes Feature Contest. AGAWAM, Mass., June 17. Eldee, bay five-year-old daughter of Campfire, carried the old rose and white striped silks of Mrs. K. Laura to victory in the Pittsfield Handicap, which brought forth a field of seven in the feature of the midweek card here at Agawam Park. Two lengths back of the winner, Ste. Louise earned second for D. Y. Elander, Jr., while a length farther back came Wee Wink, from the A. L. Dolan string,, with Phillip Schwartz Richstrike fourth. There was little delay at the post, the seven leaving in good alignment, with Rich-strike taking command, accompanied by Eldee, but the latter was taken in hand when Ste. Louise moved up. Permitting these two to fight for the leadership, Maschek rated his mount, being passed in turn by Our Crest and Snicker. Leaving the back stretch Richstrike still held sway, but Ste. Louise was right at his saddle girth. Our Crest, which had also reached the leaders, bore out on the turn, also forcing San Marino to race wide. Wee Wink had now commenced to gain upon the others, but met slight trouble as the other pair bore out. Meanwhile Eldee was being guided along the inner rail, saving ground. Jockey Maschek moved Eldee up through an opening on the rail "entering the stretch and was in front before OMalley, astride Richstrike, realized that the Laura mare was even close. In the final run to the judges stand Eldee easily drew away, while Richstrike, tiring fast, dropped out of contention, leaving Ste. Louise and Wee Wink to battle for the place honors. The largest midweek crowd since the start of the meeting was on hand, while weather conditions could not be improved upon. The track was again fast, while mutu els manager Donald Hay reported that the handle exceeded any previous week-day total. T. Christys Sunny Susan, ridden by the colored rider E. Johnson, surprised in the opening dash and started off long shot players with a bang.
