ODDS-ON CHOICE MAKES GOOD Gloria G. Scores in Opening Race at Kansas City Extremely Hot Weather Again Prevails. KANSAS CITY, Mo., June 17. Gloria G., odds-on favorite, was a rather easy winner of the first race on the program, which was for two-year-old fillies, and ten of the age and sex went postward to compete for the purse over four and one-half furlongs. From a good start Iron Sands took command, closely followed by Swing Corners and Escomur, with the ultimate winner on the outside, and losing much ground as the field swung around the lower turn. The leaders went wide, and Kerry Ways moved up on the inside and for a short spell got her nose in front. Entering the stretch, Swing Corners had displaced Iron Sands as the leader, but Gloria G. was moving up strongly on the outside and an eighth out it appeared that she would be the winner. Reno was working hard on Gloria G. at this stage, and as the field entered the final sixteenth she had taken command, and at the finish was two lengths clear of Swing Corners. The latter held on well in the drive to save the place from Escomur by half a length. Tut Tut, from the Tranquillity Farm Stable, was a surprise winner of the second race. Coming from behind in the last eighth mile, he wore down the favored Hard Boiled to cross the finish line half a length in the van of the favorite, with Sayloma saving third from the fast finishing Sister Vinie. Hard Boiled took command shortly after the start, and soon opened up a good lead, with Carmi forcing the pace, and Tut Tut racing close up under slight restraint. When the field straightened out in the stretch, Hard Boiled was still showing the way, but Tut Tut was responding gamely to urging and gaining rapidly, and inside the final seventy yards had taken the lead to pass the judges stand a half length to the clear. Another scorching day greeted the patrons of Riverside Park.
