DETROITS RECENT MEETING Myrtlewood Wins Best Stake During Thirty-Three Day Meeting. Howard Horses Place in Fourteen Races Meloche Outclasses Rivals Carter Leads the Trainers. The thirty-three day meeting just closed at the Detroit Fair Grounds was gratifying to both horsemen and officials. A total of 41,640 was distributed among the horse owners, a daily average of ,322.42. A total of 264 races was contested with a percentage of .31 public choices being successful. Eleven stakes were decided, the most valuable being the Motor City Handicap, won by Myrtlewood. This good filly also annexed the long end of the Cadillac Handicap Purse. She made but two starts but the ,030 earned by those two efforts put her at the top of the list of winning horses. Seabiscuit also took two stakes, the Governors and Hendrie Handicaps, earning J6.600. The horses of Mrs. C. S. Howard captured six firsts, six seconds, two thirds and a total of 1,225 in purse monies to earn the distinction of heading the list of money winning owners. I. Collins was next with close to ,000. T. Meloche led Nolan by twelve winning mounts at the close of the session. Chojnackl was close up with Mojena following. Me-loches riding was brilliant, riding nineteen per cent winners of 193 mounts. J. Carter saddled nine winners to lead the trainers, with A. Miller following with seven, as did T. Smith. Bellew, Gaignard, C. H. Smith and Stuart each gained credit for six. The subjoined tabulation presents the leaders in each of their divisions.
