MEROVECH was steadied along in pursuit of the pace for the first half mile, moved up on the outside when reaching the stretch and, wearing down JOHNNYCAKE for the lead, outlasted him in the closing drive. JOHNNYCAKE had speed from the start and fought it out gamely to the end. STAROGAN moved up on the inside in the opening quarter mile and, though closing willingly, was unable to threaten the leaders. UPPERCUT loomed up in threatening fashion approaching the stretch, but was unable to close any ground in the stretch drive. TWO EDGED raced into contention in the opening eighth, dropped back, then came again. CHOICE GOODS was knocked back in the opening sixteenth, moved up fast nearing the far turn, only to race in close quarters. PRIMER, well placed in the first eighth, was eased back and never could threaten thereafter. BAIN MARIE was steadied along back ol the pace of HAPPY NYMPH, swung to the outside when, reaching the stretch and gained command nearing the closing sixteenth to draw clear at the end. HAPPY NYMPH had speed from the start and, despite holding on courageously, was unable to keep pace with the winner when challenged. RAFTER, badly outpaced early, came with a rush on the extreme outside in the stretch and got up in the closing strides for the show. BOB CHARLIE made up some ground! FORTUITY, prominent from the start and on the outside, dropped back in the last sixteenth. TELLINGYOU lacked his usual early speed and was far back until reaching the stretch, then passed tiring horses through, the last eighth. BLUE SPUR was not hurried during the early running, moved up steadily on the outside in the run throueh the back stretch, trained the lead after rounding the far turn, drew clear before reaching the stretch and drew out steadily thereafter., YANKEE PRINCE moved up steadily in the .last half mile and held on stubbornly in the closing drive. BRISTLE, in close quarters early, moved up stoutly when gaining clear sailing, but was never able to reach the leaders and barely lasted to save third. JOHNS SON was badly outpaced for the first three quarters, then closed with a rush. HASTY HANNA was unable to keep up. TERRY ON was unable to make up any ground in the drive. ARTHUR METZ tired. IDLE ALONG gained a prominent position in the run to the first turn, was permitted to race along under slight reserve for the first three-quarters, moved up stoutly on the outside through the stretch and outlasted COUNT DEAN at the end. COUNT DEAN had speed from the start, was under stout reserve for the first three-quarters, regained the lead when reaching the stretch, but was unable to cope with the closing challenge of the winner. KINDACORN, outpaced until leaving the back stretch, loomed up menacingly straightening out in the stretch, but was unable to make up any ground under pressure. ONRUSH had good speed for the first three-quarters, tiring thereafter. HADTOBE made up some ground in the closing quarter mile.-SIR ROLLIE was unable to reach the leaders. HOLLUSCHICKIE was steadied along back of the pacemaker, moved up gamely when called upon, came through on the inside of COPO to take the lead, drew clear and held sway through the stretch. COPO took command at once, lost considerable ground after leaving the back stretch, lost many lengths into the stretch turn and was unable to reach the leader when placed under punishment. DONALD DUCK, well placed all the way, was unable to make up any ground when called upon. TELLWICK lost ground around the .first turn, continued to race well out in the track and was never able- to enter into serious contention. HOT CAKE, restrained for the first three-quarters, moved up steadily on the outside when leaving the back stretch, responded gamely through the stretch, getting up in the closing stride. THATCH was steadied along back of the pacemakers until the closing quarter mile, took the lead when called upon and though holding on stubbornly was not quite good enough. MORALIST displayed good speed in disputing the lead with PLAYMORE, gained a slight lead before reaching the stretch, though was unable to keep pace with the first two in the closing drive. ANHELATION, showing more early speed than usual, was unable to keep up. UNION trailed for most of the way, but made up ground in the late stages. PLAYMORE faltered in the last five-sixteenths.
